$7.5-M contract awarded In Brief Winnipeg Free Press May 22, 2004 DOMINION Construction Co. of Winnipeg has been awarded a $7.5-million contract to build a new headquarters and office building for 17 Wing at CFB Winnipeg. Defence Minister David Pratt announced the contract for the air force facility yesterday as part of a consolidation at the base. "The consolidation of CFB Winnipeg on the north side of the base and resulting transfer of surplus lands to the Canada Lands Company represents an exciting opportunity for economic growth and urban renewal," Pratt said. "This project will greatly modernize 17 Wing and CFB Winnipeg as a whole." The 4,400-square-metre Wing headquarters and office building will consolidate several overcrowded Wing headquarters facilities. Construction is expected to start this summer and be completed in June 2005. In 2001, the Canadian military ordered a consolidation of CFB Winnipeg and the relocation of 2 Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry to CFB Shilo. That departure has allowed consolidation of operations on the north side of the base and shifting of the land on the south side of the base to the Canada Lands Company to be sold.
