Awakening

I've been waiting here forever for you
like a wanderer in a dream
we want to see the next scene
but we know that once we're there
we may want to wake up

sharp intake of breath
groping vertically at dispersing ghosts
eyes wide, as never before
echoing voices in your ears
as tears fall blindly into the fading mist

That's how you happened
Like a slap to my closed eyes
You stripped away the covers on my "ignorance"
revealed me to be the sorceress I kept hidden in diaries
My spell books brimming with herbs and fairy tales
Called upon in times of dire need

But tell me, what did you get out of it?

A million bazaars to sell myself
A million fears to hide away
A million souls to add to the fire
A million years to learn it all
A million faces to smile from
A million tears to shed in vain

the haze like summer
a day lost on my memory
an hour spoken like cellos
the pillow aphrodisiac
tracing patterns in needlework
the lonely white sheets like paper
beckoning in the voices of lavender perfume
hands folded, eyes closed
snow feathers falling on cheeks and eyelashes
a frozen coffin Sleeping Beauty
but we never see a thing

That's how it started
Like a funeral at sunset
It built me my birdcage
Nestled in the busy streets
The passers-by call upon the bird to sing
But her voice died back in the Renaissance

Tell me, what took you so long?

A thousand lies to whisper low
A thousand masks to wear at will
A thousand sins to sear my soul
A thousand caskets lined up in a row
A thousand drops of blood to stain my dress
A thousand swords for all the rest

With stars as our witnesses,
We woke from our nightmare
Climbed from our cushioned beds to see the world anew
And looked back to see
Our broken, lonely coffins
This one was inspired by the anime series Shoujo Kakumei Utena, and the character Himemiya Anthy. I also drew inspiration from myself and my sister-star, Iris.

Tell me what you think!
