Friends

There always seems to be a friend
that's waiting 'round, a road that bends
through twisted trails, of unknown woods, where conscience questions, all the shoulds!
And yet - the heart cannot be still
when love, o'er rides, controlling will.
Intentions seek another plan, when
glimpse is caught, of out-stretched hand.
For who's the fool, if ruled by bounds
and new day dawns or trumpet sounds?
When all that's been, is left behind,
for what is now; that's just as kind!

In innocence; a friendly way
to share of hope, come ling'ring day.

While long the road; perhaps uphill,
in friendship shared - made shorter still.
For each new friend, may come and go
and yet, in life, somehow we know
those hours, we walked and shared of glee,
or maybe shared of sympathy
gave rise to thoughts, that couldn't have been
had we not paused ... to talk with them.
To all these friends, I've come to know,
there always comes a time to grow.

So all are one in God, to me
Grand giver of Life's mysteries ...
