Remember Florida |
When I was a child, I lived in the country which today has become a large town palmettos and pines, Spanish moss and the vines now all rearranged or plowed down Our little house stood two blocks from the bay where blue waters were warm and so clear the sandy white trail was a haven for quail and a highway for 'possum and deer The Osprey would soar in the Florida breeze while dolphins would frolic off-shore back then as I played, with no thought of the day when from this wealth we could soon become poor The rivers, the woods, the surf and the sand the lakes and the pines in the middle had nurtured a part of my soul and my heart how to save them became my own riddle remember the panther remember the eagle remember the natives too what they took for granted is fast disappearing into cities for me and for you Now as I grow old in this land of the sun the memories well up inside the Florida I knew - the one you knew too should serve as a beacon to guide Enjoy her waters, enjoy her lands as you recreate under skies of blue as you bide your time, keep one thing in mind all of Florida's your backyard too Joy A.
