Would A Child Choose To Grow
What do I see when I look at a child
Is it innocense, curiosity or energy running wild
This tiny person just learning to be
All he looks up to, like you or me
But, what if this child only knew
All that a "grown-up" has to do
Would he still want to continue to grow
Or remain as a child his maturity slow
Being aware of having to surrender innocence
Having knowledge of playing time being condenced
The irresponsible freedom with which he runs
Replaced with responsibilities that must be done
Or acceptence of the immanent task
Quietly relinquish and surrender his past
I fear that a child who was fully aware
Would not want to grow, instead remain there
This world we know would have very few adults
And would probably be much better off
Innocense and trust would then control
This world of cynicism to which we hold
