By Brian Liskai
Fremont, Ohio (May 31, 2004)
Wayne Maffett Jr. watched his late father win 44 features
at Fremont Speedway - good for seventh on the all-time win
list at "The Track That Action Built." The young
Mansfield, Ohio driver used the knowledge he
gleaned from his dad to pick up the
Sunoco American Late Model Series
victory at Fremont Monday.

"It was a one-groove, bottom-of-the-race-track deal tonight,
and my dad was one of the best when it came
to getting your nose under someone to get by them.
I just learned how to drive this race track from him.
I love coming to Fremont...
the fans are so great here," said Maffett, who scored
his 12 career feature win at the speedway.
"I'm dedicating this win to my dad.
I'm so glad I can carry his number 40 on
and win races with it."

Maffett took the lead from Eric Myers early in the
event when Myers drifted just a bit high coming out of
turn two, allowing the eventual winner to wedge his
way to the front.Maffett survived two
restarts and pulled away for the easy win on
True Value Hardware of Woodville Night,
over Myers, Kris Patterson,
Matt Miller and Greg Martin.

Miller bested the 52-car field in qualifications, with the heat
wins going to Miller, Steve Casebolt,
Bryan Ruhlman, Myers and Rick DeLong.
