When my dad was just 19 years old, he had went to the races with his brother Leroy.
On the way home they got a flat on trailer.
Leroy said he wasn't feeling good and would my dad mind changing the tire.
Of course my dad didnt mind and went and changed the tire.
When he got back to the truck,
Leroy was slupped over the steering wheel.
He had a heart attack and died at the age of 25.
They said that my dad would sit in Leroy's racecar in the yard.
After doing this for about a month
he decided to go ahead and race Leroy's car.
He raced Leroy's #151 for 3 years.
The 4th year he raced for in the #131.
Then for the next 6 years he raced the #151 for Elliott's.
Then for the next 6 years he raced the #J7 for Jones's.
The last 10 years he raced for himself driving #40.
My dad raced for 26 years.
He had 15 Championships and over 350 trophys.

The best memory's that I have is when he drove his #40.
He was a great racecar driver.
He loved to start at the rear of the pack and blow them away,
which he did a lot.
They could stick him in the wall and he would say that was just racing.
The crowd would boo him and he would just smile and wave at them.
He really thought that was funny.
The only reason they didn't like him was because he was a winner.
He raced at Fremont, Attica, Eldora, Millstream, Lakeville, Wayne County, Mansfield and Zanesville.
He raced any where he could.
It didnt seem to matter if he was at a track that he knew very well
or it was his first time there,
It didn't matter where he raced,
he usually won.
I remember once going to a racetrack and the guys came over to the car and was laughing and saying
"We will blow him away with those bicycle tires" ,
they ran much bigger tires than what we did.
Well we went out that night and won the feature.
Well those same guys came over and wanted to know where we got our bicycle tires.

My dad was a hero to me.
He will live on in my heart forever.
He was one of the kindest people that I have ever meant.
He was loved by many people and still is.
I know that I sure miss seeing him in his firesuit and racing his #40.
I know he loved his racing.
I am sure he is in heaven racing with his brother and uncle Dick.

To anyone that would have any information they think I might like to have please pass it along to me.
I really dont know too much about Dad's racing career because I was just a kid back then.
I also thought that I would have the rest of my life to ask him all these things that I wish I knew right now.
