For the Birds

"Let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky"
"God blessed them and said let the birds increase on the earth."
(Genesis 1:20-22)
As responsible stewards over whatever part of the earth we occupy, maintaining suitable habitat for birds is essential if we are to fulfill our responsibility. In our little "piece of the planet" in Eldersburg Maryland we have already enjoyed many bird types in our yard and neighborhood. My travels on the web have found these informative sites on how to share the planet with birds and aid in their thriving.

Our Own Bird Habitat
Our home is located on a 2/3rds of an acre lot in a suburban setting not far from scattered farms. Our front yard contains a large spruce tree that attracts many small birds such as the tufted titmouse, chickadees, finches and sparrows. Remarkable, we rarely see the introduced species (starlings and english sparrows) that dominated our former more urban home. Our backyard is all open ending at a small stream lined with trees. Our backyard is often visited by bluebirds. We currently have a small hanging feeder in the front spruce tree and a barn shaped feeder on a cedar post in the backyard. I will try to update this as our bird sitings and improvements to bird accomodations occur.
