Literacy Centres Outline
Centre One: SILENT READING
Your child is expected to read nightly. Once a week, as indicated on the  Literacy Centre Page, three graphic organizer activities must be completed thoroughly. These activities are to be completed both at home and in class. Then handed in on your child's group due date. The graphic organizers have been given to your child to use as a template.

Centre Two:
GUIDED READING
These activities take place with me guiding the students, as a group, through their reading. Activities based on this text will take place in the next centre.

Centre Three:
RESPONSE TO GUIDED READING
Every week your child will be involved in a guided reading program (as above). Students will engage in activities following the assigned reading. These activities will usually cover a two week span. These activities are to be done both at school and at home for homework, then handed in on your child's group due date.

Centre Four:
SHARED READING & ACTIVITY
Every week your child will be involved in a shared reading program. Students will engage in activities prior to reading, during reading and following reading. These activities will usually cover a two week span. These activities are to be done both at school and at home for homework, then handed in on your child's group due date.

Centre Five:
CATCH UP CENTRE
Students can take this opportunity to work on any incomplete work.

Please take some time to help your child organize the due date in their agenda. Also, it may help them focus if they place these due dates on a calendar to see them at a glace.
