Girl Scout Twist Bracelet/Necklace

twist bracelet

made in 6 colors, one for each of the World of Interest (red, yellow, orange, blue, violet)
and one for Girl Scouts (green).

This is a wonderful project to make for Rededication Ceremonies or as a thank-you gift to Girl Scouts.

Supplies: You'll need

Directions:
1. Cut 15" of each color for each bracelet; 42" of each color for each necklace. You will have a total of 6 strands.
2. Thread all the strands through a jump ring, having about a 1/2" tail hang down. (You will knot the first colors around the double layer of strands, securing all the strands with the knots). Smooth out the strands. Now, you need to anchor the strands so that you will be able to pull the strand taut. The easiest way is to put a straight pin thru your jeans, right on your kneecap (do not stick yourself!) so that the pin is lieing on top of the jeans (as though you were going to pin something to your jeans). Then put the jump ring over the head of the pin. This will allow you pull on the strands for knotting. Alternatively, you can thread a narrow strip of sturdy paper thru the jump ring, then tape the paper strip to a tabletop.
3. Holding A2 in one hand and pulling taut, take one color (labeled "A1") and wrap it over, then under the 5 remaining strands (labeled A2) to form a knot (see diagram 3).
3. Continuing to hold A2 taut, pull A1 in upward direction until knot is tightened at top (see diagram 4). Take care so that all the loops lie nicely against each other.
4. Continue knotting in exact same manner with A1, making 6 knots (one knot for each of the Worlds of Interest plus one for Girl Scouts). Use any color order that you wish, just being sure to repeat the same order throughout the bracelet/necklace. You'll notice a formation of diagonal row of knots starting down towards the right (see diagram 5). To insure uniform spiral pattern, be sure each knot is made beneath preceding knot, rather than on top of it.

5. When the last knot is made of A1, let its tail hang with A2 and pick up the next color from the left (the new A1). Continue knotting as before.
6. The bracelet will be approximately 7" of knots; 20" for the necklace.
7. Secure the end of the bracelet/necklace with a crimp bead, snugging the non-eyelet end against the last knot; the remaining strands will hang over the eyelet. Crimp the eyelet shut. Trim the remaining strands close to the eyelet (use a utility knife rather than scissors .. scissors can't get close enough for a neat trim).
8. Attach a jump ring to the eyelet of the crimp bead and the spring clasp. The spring clasp will open/close to the original jump ring.
