Mauthausen

Concentration Camp

Austria

This will not be what my other pages have been. Austria has many positives, this is not one of them. Austria, second to Germany played a role in the deaths of millions of innocents in World War II. Austria agreed to be part of the Third reich reluctantly, but still agreed. Poland, Hungry, Czech etc fought back. Austria did not.

This is Mauthausen in the village of the same name. Admission to the camp was less than $6 for all five of us. Part of it has been razed but much has been kept as it was. This is an area where many inmates were forced to stand 12 hours a day for role calls. The barracks are seen to the left and right of me.

Inside the barracks. No source of heat.

Where the inmates washed and urinated

Where they showered.
