While there are some programs that do not require you to recruit any members, the only way to maximize your earnings in any program that you join is to build a downline.

So, therefore if you plan to be RICH, you must learn how to recruit.

Many people view recruiting as a dirty word. However, if you, study these lessons and choose one or two strategies and work those strategies diligently, I will guarantee you will be successful.

People who are new to the Internet or who have never been in a marketing program before might have a difficult time knowing just how to get started. This is just a guide on how to get things moving for you to build a good downline.

Start off by establishing habits that will be the most useful and beneficial to your groups growth. Set goals and this should be done every week as it will help you to measure the progress you make. Choose one evening a week to take time to think about the things that you want to accomplish this week. Some of the things to consider might be:

  1. How many people will I talk to about the opportunity?
  2. Who will these people be?
  3. How many hours will I spend reading and learning to increase my knowledge of business and marketing?
  4. What will I read to accomplish #3?
  5. How will I advertise?
  6. How many phone calls will I make to tell my friends or family about the oppotunity?

This is just an example and reflects no particular strategy nor plan. But however it does give you an idea of how to open up your mind to the endless possibilities. Next you need to understand your opportunity. Write down or print out the most pertinent information from the program pages and make your own notes as well. Put this in a ring binder. This way you will have the information available at your fingertips online and off.

If there are things you do not understand about your program, you could always talk with your sponsor. If your sponsor cannot help, they will know who could help you out.

Who do you talk to about this opportunity? There is no one that I know who would tell you they had enough money or didn't want more.

How do you find these people?

The lessons, which follows, will teach you the many ways to drive traffic to your web pages or your opportunity's web pages. Study each lesson and try as many as you feel comfortable using. In time you will choose the two or three which will work the best for you.

Marketing is an on going learning experience. The more you learn, the more successful you will become in any program that you are involved. Continue to expand your marketing knowledge. Search the Internet for marketing information by using keywords. Use keywords like:

  • Internet marketing
  • MLM marketing
  • Business promotion
  • Promoting online business
  • Online advertising
  • etc., etc., etc.

DO NOT spend any unnecessary money on marketing e-books, buying leads, buying classified ads, etc. You may want to do that later, but for now, let us just see what is available. Those who are promote marketing e-books make it sound as if their e-book has all the answers but in fact they don't. Don't be fooled by the word "guru." There are some marketing "guru's" on the Internet, but not as many as claim to be.

Until you have more knowledge about marketing and can evaluate the worth of the information offered, just leave your money in your pocket. With each step that you can take successfully, your willingness to do more will expand. Your beliefs of what is possible for you will also expand.

Don't set yourself up to get lost on the road. Use your map. Go from Point A to Point B. Create small successes which will allow you the confidence to build larger successes.

Lesson 1 - REDIRECT URL's

A problem inherent in all affiliate programs is the member's URL. Prospects who do not buy or join on the first visit and do not bookmark the page may be lost to you. If they decide to visit again they may not remember your ID. Then they will simply just type in the corporate address and your advertising time and/or money just went down the drain. The only best defense that we have is a Redirect URL or Web Forwarding URL.

The newest creation for a redirect is the TinyURL or Uni.CC.

The process for obtaining this redirect is easy. Simply go to TinyURL, fill in the blank with your referral URL, click create and instantaneously you will be given a Tiny URL. Test your new TinyURL just to be sure that it will take your prospect to the webpage of choice and check to see that your referral ID is on the signup page too.

Never use a TinyURL without testing it first as you do not want to lose a prospect just because you mistyped a letter.

To do:

  1. Re-read the program site several more times if you have not done so. Click on all the links, and read everything.
  2. Go to the forums and ask your questions there. Most of the members will be happy to help you.
  3. Get your Redirect URL or Web Forwarding URL.

The "key secret" to your success lies in your commitment and dedication. If you consistently promote your website, you will GET RESULTS. That's guaranteed! If you don't have the skills that top online marketers have, do not worry; just understand that at one time they were in EXACTLY the same position you are today. You will learn!

Do remember to send out welcome letters to your new members.

If you do not care to do your own training, you may save this series of marketing lessons and use them for your training your new members who are new to marketing. It is very important that they get training and please be as helpful to them as you can. If they have questions you can't answer, please direct them to someone who can.

Lesson 2 - Steps to Success

Who are your best prospects? Family and Friends! If they are connected to the Internet, why would you not want to tell them how to make extra money?

No family or friends? Future lessons will teach you how to approach strangers and make new friends. New family members you will have to take care of providing yourself.

Five Steps to Success

  • Step One -- Join a program with potential. By joining Studio Traffic, you have completed this step.
  • Step Two -- Learn everything you can about the program. Ask questions of your sponsor, and ask in the Studio Traffic forums. It is important that you understand the program.
  • Step Three -- Make a list. Put everyone you know on the list. Your mother, father, children, sisters, brother, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and acquaintances. If they are connected to the Internet they already know how to use this program. No special skills are needed. Learn and grow together.
  • Step Four -- Help these members. Help them talk to their family and friends.
  • Step Five -- Continue to enroll from your list Introduce your new members to these 5 steps. Help them repeat these steps with their new members and see that the 5 steps are passed down to each new group. Repeat the 5 steps over and over again and no one fails.

It is important to remember that not everyone that will want to recruit, and that is OK. Studio Traffic is an opportunity for everyone, whether they actively pursue new members or not. For these members, I would suggest you ask them for a referral list. Work the list for them and have the referrals from their list sign up under them. Over time, usually after the first pay check, many will become active recruiters.

Work with all your members who ask for help, but do not over burden yourself with those who prefer not to recruit.

If you can't persuade anyone on your list to join, do not be discouraged; think of it as a learning experience. You can always approach these people again when you have more knowledge of the program. Your first check may be the turning point for them.

Lesson 3 - Creating a SIG File

What is a SIG file? It is a custom signature and mini advertisement, which is automatically attached to all your out going e-mail messages or forum post.

You will usually find the place to create your SIG file, under your profile, in either, your e-mail program or your forum profile.

Do read the forum rules for SIG files, before creating your file. Some forums do not allow sig files, at all and most limit the number of lines or characters. My personal preference is one or two lines, plus the URL.

How to use your SIG file:
Ideally, your SIG file should be attached to every message or every forum that you can attach to. However, you will need to think when it is the appropriate time to add your SIG file. You might not want to tell your mother to join Studio Traffic everyday even if it is your habit to e-mail her that often.

When you receive e-mail ads or offers, why not reply with a question, or make a comment. If they have included a URL, go to their web site, take a few notes about the site and then ask about their program. Do not send them an ad for your program, or even mention it in the body of your letter, let your SIG file do the selling.

Do not use anything like "Greatest Opportunity on the Internet." Be very subtle, say nothing that would leave them with the impression that the only reason you wrote was to hype your opportunity. Well, of course, that is the reason you wrote, but, if handled correctly, you may gain a new friend and possibly, a new Studio Traffic member.

This will certainly generate more e-mails, either from an auto responder or a personal note. If you get a personal reply, you have started a networking relationship. More often you will receive an auto-response, then simply opt out and delete.

Here is an example of what you might say:

"Hi Jean, I looked at your site and I thought it was very interesting. Can you tell me a little more about your products? Do you find that there is a good market for them?"

Keep it short and let the relationship develop over time. Fact is that after a few e-mails they may ask about what you do, or on the other hand, you may never get the opportunity to tell them about Studio Traffic. Don't push it.

OK, so you are thinking this is a slow and tedious way to get sign ups, just one person at a time. Let's think about it in another way. What do we know about this person? Quite a lot as a matter of fact. You may only have an e-mail address and an ad, but here is what you know.

  1. They are an active marketer.
  2. They spend time online.
  3. They want to make money.
  4. The ad will tell you:
  5. If they chose a good opportunity. Ad writing skills (assuming they wrote ad themselves) One method of advertising they are using (FFA page, Opt-in list, e-groups, Spam, etc.)

So, what is important here? It is that they are actively trying to make money on the Internet. Now, isn't that the kind of prospect you want to cultivate? Think what a couple of those could do for your downline.

Another use for your SIG file is like like trading cute stories or jokes with a group of friends and family? Add your SIG file. In fact make it a habit to mail a joke or story every week. The joke will continue into further generations and you may pick up a few members over time. Alternate ads with each joke/story you forward.

Put your thinking caps on and I am sure you can come up with more and better ads. SIG files work. Think how many emails you send everyday. This is a great way to get your link seen by many people -- free and without fear of spamming.

Lesson 4 - Writing Ads

The most important thing you will ever do in marketing any opportunity or product is creating advertising copy. No one will buy, sign up, or even see your site, before you advertise. And they will not go, if your ad copy does not persuade them to make the click.

Sell the sizzle not the steak. The purpose of your ad is to get your prospect to contact you or to go to your website. Let your follow up messages or website sell the product.

Here are some dos and don'ts for writing ads.
  1. Do not use all caps, lots of exclamation marks or dollar signs. They are viewed as hype.
  2. Talk with your prospect. Use "you" and "your" in your copy, whenever possible.
  3. Use action verbs; discover, become, learn, increase, etc.
  4. Make an emotional connection, satisfy a need or want. Answer the question: "How will the prospect benefit?"
  5. Use short words and short sentences. Eliminate all unnecessary words. You will be surprised how many adjectives you can do without. This is especially important when you are paying for an ad by the word.
  6. Relate and communicate like the average person.
  7. Motivate your reader to act NOW. Ex: "Send an E-mail today!"
  8. Words to avoid: buy, bad, death, loss, hard, worry, taxes, wrong, difficult, sell, deal, fail, liability, cost, obligation, decision.
  9. Words to include: free, love, amazing, safe, new, gain, benefit, money, happy, glad, proven, guarantee, results, fun, discover, how you, how to, now, easy, comfortable, magic, value, fast, secret, proud, secure, solution.
  10. Your HEADLINE is the most important part of your ad. It should grab the attention of your prospect with the biggest benefit your product offers. See how much punch you can put into 5 words are less.
  11. Write, rewrite, and rewrite again. Writing effective copy does not happen the first time you make an attempt to write ads.
  12. Get a second opinion from someone you trust.
  13. Spell check your work!
  14. Double-check your URL.
  15. Make it easy for your prospect to contact you. Give as many contact options, as you have available. Include your name, phone, e-mail address and fax. Would you trust anyone who isn't proud enough, of his/her program, too put their name on it?
  16. If your ad is not performing, change it. Not the whole thing, but a word here and there. Keep refining the copy until you find an ad that works. Always keep trying to improve your results.
  17. Advertise where it counts. For instance there is no sense in publishing opportunity ads in a decorator's magazine or e-zine.
  18. Practice, Practice, Practice!

Lesson 5 - Helpful Things

To save you time and improve your results there are a few things that would be useful to you. You can do without them, but as your business grows they will make your life easier.

  • Ad Tracker
  • Autoresponder
  • List Server
  • Mailing Program
  • Online advertising
  • Web Site

AD TRACKER
Tracking the effectiveness of your ads is one important part of marketing. You can waste a great deal of time and money, if you do not know which ads and which sites are giving you the best results. However, most of trackers required that you place the system on your own website. I am assuming that this is not an option for most of us. If you join their program, Referral Ware has a free ad tracker, which is run on their server. However, after a few months they ask you to upgrade to a paid membership. I will show you another way to track ads later in this lesson.

AUTORESPONDER (AR)
This is a must have. As your business grows it will become more difficult to send individual emails to prospects requesting more information, Your AR will automate this job and many of your other repetitive tasks. You can set your autoresponders to send out:

  1. ST information to prospects
  2. E-mail your downline as a group
  3. Training lessons
When a prospect sends an email to your AR, the AR will send out your messages, in the time frame you have set up, immediately, one day, two days, etc. The AR takes care of sending out the messages, removal of addresses which bounce, and those who ask to be removed. This frees you to do more advertising, and to answer individual questions.

HOW TO TEST ADS WITH AUTORESPONDERS
Write three different ads use a different AR address in each ad. Place these ads on the same ad site for several days. Count the responses you receive at each address. Place the most successful ad on three different classified ad sites. See which ad site is generating the most response. You now know which ad is working and which is the best ad site for this ad to generate the most response. Sorry, you cannot rest on your laurels. You must continuously be testing ads. When old ads and/or sites stop producing good results you will need to change to a fresh and newly tested ad and/or site. Where do you get autoresponders? Type "free autoresponders" in the any search engine. Many sites give them away. I will leave List Servers, Mailing Programs and Web sites for another day.

To do:

  1. Prepare letters for your AR.
  2. Sign up for an autoresponder. Be sure you will get reliable service.
  3. Write 10 to 20 ads, save your best efforts for use on Classified sites. Save your ads in Word or on Note Pad. Later you can retrieve, the classified sites. (Classified sites covered in Lesson 7.)

FFA Sites
At one time submitting your ad to FFA sites worked, and worked well, but that was when the net was young and innocent and before there were a hundred gazillion of them on the Internet. You have seen the ads; I am sure, "Summit your ad to a million FFA sites with one click of your mouse." So, everyone is using auto-summit software and they never go to the site to see the ads. Now, tell me how many referrals do you expect to receive, if no one is reading the ads?

One tiny step above submitting your ad, is getting your own FFA site. They can be had for free at most FFA sites, type free FFA or Free For All in the a search engine, you will get more than you can use. The advantage to owning your own FFA page is that you can set up an automatic "thank you for posting on my site" message. This message can and should includes an ad for your opportunity, which is sent to everyone who posts an ad on your FFA page.

I suspect 99% of these messages are deleted unread. However, some do get read, and some do click thru to your site. There is one advantage in this system and that is - once you have set up the automation, you never need to touch it again. Since it is free and you only set up once it may be worth your time to give it a try. However, do not expect hordes of sign ups.

Lesson 7 - Online Free Classified Ads

The main objection to using free classified sites is -- in order for them to be effective, you must spend a great deal of time, everyday working them. With that said, if you have more time then money, they can drive targeted traffic to your site.

STEPS

  1. If you do not already have a junk e-mail account, get one. The best-known ones are Yahoo and Hotmail. There are many others who provide this service, simply type "free e-mail account" in a search engine. If your e-mail program allows you more than one account, set one up to receive junk mail. The better classified sites will not allow you to post ads using known junk accounts.
  2. Type "free classified ads" in a search engine. You will find hundreds of them. Visit 20 or so, read some of the ads, study the site, choose 5 that you feel will be best for your product or program. Pick sites that allow you to have a headline and several lines of ad copy. Note: Best sites are those, which do not allow automated submissions. Better chance that your ad will be read, if real people must go to the site.
  3. You wrote those 10 to 20 ads in Lesson 5, didn't you? OK, then do it now, remembering that the headline is the most important part of the ad. Actually, classifieds are so short that every word is important. Keep your ad simple and to the point. Note: Good ad writing is so vital that, if you have not done so, already, I urge you to go to Site Sell and subscribe to the free Netwriting Master course.
  4. Now, that you have your ads written, go to one of the sites you chose and submit 3 of your best ads. Do the rest of the test as described in Lesson 5. Note: Depending on the amount of traffic a site receives, ads do not stay long on the first page (second page ads, rarely get read). On the manual submission sites your ad may last from a few minutes to a day or two. Those that allow automated submissions last only a few seconds.
  5. Keep note of the most responsive site, this site you will want to submit to every day or as often as allowed. Note: If you do not have an auto-responder, you can do the same thing with e-mail accounts. Put a different email account in each add. However, be sure to check every account each day. You do not want your hot prospect waiting around more then 24 hours for a response from you.
  6. Set up a schedule for yourself to submit ads everyday.
  7. Repeat Steps 2 and 4 and place these new sites on your schedule. Continue to repeat Step 2 and 4, until you have as many as you can handle in the time you have allotted to this task. I would suggest at least one hour a day. The more sites you post ads to the better your chance of driving traffic to your web page.
  8. Keep testing until all the sites on your list are your most responsive sites. Sites and ads may lose their appeal, so be prepared to replace them. Note: Do keep all your good responsive ads. Although they may lose their appeal, in a month or so they may again get good response.

Lesson 8 - Yahoo Classifieds

Today, I am going to focus on Yahoo's free classified site. Why single them out? Because Yahoo classifieds gets more hits every day than any other classified site, on the Internet. It takes 24 hours for Yahoo to upload your ad, but as soon as they do, your ad will appear at the top. You ad is good for 30 days, but you will only get traffic for about 24 hours. After that your ad will drop too far from the number one positions to be effective. Here are the steps you should take to keep traffic flowing to your site.

STEPS

  1. If you do not have a Yahoo e-mail account, go to yahoo, and set up five accounts. Yahoo allows you 10 active classified ads per Yahoo e-mail account.
  2. Login into your first account and scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on Classifieds.
  3. Post ten ads, all the same ad with same subject line, but place them in 10 different categories and subcategories.
  4. Second day: using your second account; do same as #1 with a new ad and new subject line and place in same categories as you used on day one.
  5. Third day: using your third account; repeat # 2 & 3
  6. Fourth day: using your fourth account: repeat # 2 & 3
  7. Firth day: using your firth account: repeat # 2 & 3. Now, you have 50 ads working for you. Five groups of 10, each group with their own ad and subject line.
  8. Sixth day: enter account #1, click on "EDIT ADS," delete your first group of ten. These ads are still active, but by this time they have fallen to the bottom or off the first page. While still in account one, enter 10 new ads, or use the same ad you deleted with a new subject line.
  9. On each following day delete old ads and replace with new for each account. Continue this process everyday. This will ensure you always have an ad near the top.

TIPS When you place your ad completely fill out the submission form, with the exception of a photo. Check the view report for each ad, before you delete. This information is available to you on the site. If you are receiving very few or no views change the subject line or the content, not both at the same time. Keep editing and refining your ad until it brings the desired results.
