(A Walking Shadow - Working Title)

Back to Stories

I started this story a long time ago, and it was originally based on part of Shakespeare’s Richard III. Don’t bother looking for that, though - it’s gone through so many changes since that all traces of the original concept have gradually fallen away. Here’s a preview:

Chapter One - Sound and Fury

Robin, of a different surname every few months, was (other than her mysterious, mutable identity) nothing special. In fact, one might even go so far as to call her plain. She was an inch or two below average height, but not enough to be considered short. She was a few pounds below average weight, but not enough to be considered thin. Her body was normally proportioned, except for rather big feet and a nose that was only a little crooked. Her not-quite-curly but not-quite-straight brown hair was too long to be considered short and too short to be considered long, and her eyes (also brown) were the exact right shade to be unremarkable. Her face was tolerable enough to look at, but it wasn’t particularly pretty.

In terms of looks, she had nothing on her dainty, petite cousin Rosalind, with her wispy, honey-blonde hair and chocolate-brown eyes; nor Rosalind’s sister Isabella, who had flowing red hair, dancing green eyes, and an attractive splattering of freckles across her nose; nor her other cousin, Persephone, whose lovely blue eyes were framed by long, midnight-black hair. No, Robin was not one of the beautiful women in her family.

She did have one thing on them, though.

She was alive.

At least, temporarily.

The basic plot is that one particularly power-hungry sorcerer managed to kill off most of the other families, but he did a rather poor job in that he missed about half a dozen people over about four families, and now he’s trying to hunt them down.

I have some rather poor drawings of some of the characters; perhaps I’ll put them up eventually. ;)

And yes, every chapter title is a quote from a Shakespeare play, for no particular reason other than that I felt like it. :)
