You’ve seen it. You fear it. It’s THE BLANK WHITE PAGE. It sits there, terrifying, the cursor blinking at you mockingly. How do you possibly fight this monster? Answer: By figuring out the ingredients for your story! Ingredient One: Characters. They tend to invent themselves, given half a chance. Just pick a few and let them decide what they’re like. You can find more on how to create characters in Is my character a Mary Sue? Ingredient Two: Conflict. There must be some kind of problem which the characters will have to fix. This motivates your plot and creates interest. It can be anything from being out of milk to an alien invasion. The characters just need something to get them moving.
