I have pictures of my Grandparent’s fifty years together,
And I know their marriage survived through all kinds of weather.
I think of the Cardinal bird that mates for life,
And how a couple devoted makes it through all the strife.
Three children, two were in the war,
The V-mail came through the mail to their door.
How they must have anguished each day in fear,
For their precious boys so dear.
The days melted into each other one by one,
Until they became fifty years with one rising sun.
The family gathered for the occasion on that golden autumn afternoon,
Fifty years together would end for one soon.
A lifetime of memories, some sad and others glad,
Made up the years in photos to be kept through months and years.
Some brought smiles and some a few tears.
Fifty years together should be honored and applauded,
It is an accomplishment to be lauded.
