I looked out the window
And I did behold,
It was in 1936; I was eight years old.
A parade was coming down the street,
In Sandusky, Ohio.
I remember like it was yesterday.

Mom was out back hanging clothes on the line.
I hurried down the steps,
And as parade came by,
I ran into line,
And proceeded to march right along,
To the outskirts of town.
I was so happy.
I loved the bands,
And everything about parades.

About two hours later,
The police were taking me back home,
As by then my mom had an idea what had happened.
My mom gave me a good talking to,
And a couple of swats.

I still love parades,
And go as often as I can.
I will never forget it!
