The eyes do not see as they used to,
The ears do not hear quite as well,
And the words seem to hesitate,
But we observe and analyze.
Overall we in most part,
Seem to say less,
For it seems it takes fewer words,
But most of all, we seem to understand.
Each year it seems, to me at least,
Older folks do get much smarter,
And I have even noticed,
I am not as quick to jump right in.
Wiser with years, learned by mistakes,
Just think how many we would like to have back,
Or how many foolish things we have said,
But we now seem to understand.
Each year, it seems to me,
Older folks grow wiser,
And shucks, even I,
Think maybe I am, too.
