Thursday: Variations on a Generation (xv-xxxvi). Finish video if needed.

Week 3 (January 23-27)
Monday: Enter Neal Cassady (187-190), “Joan Anderson” letter (197-208), and East Coast Beats (1-7).
Thursday: Kerouac: King of the Beats (video).

Week 4 (January 30-February 3)
Monday: Jack Kerouac (8-10), and On the Road (10-42) by Jack Kerouac. Finish video.
Thursday: In-class writing.

Week 5 (February 6-10)
Monday: W.S. Burroughs (102-104), Junky (104-116) and “Deposition” (136-144) by Burroughs.
Thursday: In-class writing. I need you to bring scissors and a printed page we can cut up. This could be from a magazine, a newspaper, or something else.

Week 6 (February 13-17)
Monday: Lawrence Ferlinghetti—"Uses of Poetry" (540) and "Horn on Howl" (254-263).
Thursday: Allen Ginsberg (60-61), Howl (62-70) and “Footnote to Howl” (70-71).

Week 7 (February 20-24)
Monday: President's Day. No classes.

Week 8 (February 27-March 3)

Monday: Hunter S. Thompson Excerpt from Fear and Loathing (handout). Watch Fear and Loathing (movie).
Thursday: Finish watching Fear and Loathing.

Week 16 (May 1-5)
Monday: Review.
