Dallas - Granada Theater Aug 1, 2003
Liz comes out about 8:50. She's wearing Blue jean shorts (no fish nets) with a greenish shirt and no hat (see review of earlier Dallas show). I'm kind of towards the back, so I couldn't make out what the t-shirt said.
First off, Liz's guitar doesn't work. The tech messes around for a bit and it is fixed.

Liz didn't seem to be in a very good mood. She rarely smiled and there was
virtually no between song talking or song intros. I don't think they were
usinga set list. Liz told the guitarist the song, who relayed it to the rest of the band. Her voice sounded great. The back up vocals were pretty good when I could hear them. The sound was pretty bad where I was standing.
Details:
Liz alternated between 3 Strats (red, brown and white). The lead guitarist
used a Gibson hollow body for much of the show, but changed to a Strat for the
Divorce Song solo and an acoustic for a few songs.
Liz was stage center, lead guitar stage right, bass stage left, keyboards
(Roland) on a platform stage right and drums on a platform stage left.
I didn't much care for Jason Mraz. He's like a cross between Dave Matthews and John Maher, neither of whom I like. I left after about 6 songs, figured I'd give him a chance. He told a story about Liz, but I couldn't understand what he was saying. Something about Liz leading him on and then saying she was just kidding, I think. Liz got a really good response, but nowhere near the level of noise for Jason.
Ack, I'm just now getting to this! I had to work all day today, but I can assure you, Liz has been on mind. Thanks to everyone who replied to me with tips on how to meet her, it worked! I got to talk to her for about 5 minutes before the show and take pictures, etc. I brought her a tub of cotton candy from where I work (I make all of the cotton candy at Six Flags) because it says, "It's Sweet!" on the container. She actually chuckled at that when she saw it and sang a line from the song, showing we were on the same page. It was cute. When I first saw her she was with her tour manager taking out some trash and boxes. No, she's definitely NOT too normal for me.
Sondre Loche (sp?) went on first, he was so adorable. Little Norwegian fella with the most adorable accent and powerful music. He was kinda silly, but it really worked for him. Jazz chords and emo-esque lyrics... It rocked.
Liz came out at about 8:30 in ripped blue jean shorts and a green shirt that said "Fate." She looked HOT! Better than the last Dallas show with that annoying hat (although the underwear without pants made up for that I suppose). Liz came out without much fanfare, everyone I talked to at the show was there for Mraz, a bunch of kids. Kinda dissapointing. Although, me being only 18, I guess there isn't much difference in age. Oh well, can't win them all.
Set list was as follows:
6'1"
WCSE
Stratford-On-Guy -- "Allright guys, I'm taking one" and then played solo.
Mesmerizing
Rock Me
Never Said
Little Digger -- She cried again, it was pretty powerful.
Glory
Help Me Mary
Why Can't I? -- She teared up a bit here too, weird.
Johnny Feelgood
Polyester Bride
Divorce Song
HWC -- I was standing in the very front with a small group of Liz fans and we all shouted out HOT WHITE CUM, Liz giggled and said "Ok kids, cover your ears."
Uncle Alvarez
Perfect World
Extraordinary
Supernova
The band was really together, they rocked so much more than any other live bootleg I have heard of her. I wish her vocal mic had been louder, but oh well. Derek, from the Starlight Mints, was playing keyboards up on a platform. I got to talk to him before the show too, he was really nice.
After Supernova Liz just kinda left. She didn't seem that into it, but the vibes Liz got were so incredibly different from the energy that was in the crowd for Mraz. I stayed for a couple of songs and then left.
Enough for now!

Also attended the Dallas show. Let me start by saying I was thrilled to drive 5 hours to see Liz and would do it again and again and again and again.
First, I think her drummer is absolutely the worst drummer I've ever heard on a major label supported tour. The bass player was great (Lakeland 4 & 5, some other old semi-hollow) as were the keyboards, the guitar (Tele & Gibson 135) , marginal, but hell I'm sure it was a challenge playing with a drummer who struggled to find the down beat all night. Supernova was so f'n fast the guitar player had to cut way back on the solo and Liz could hardly keep up. Several others were too fast as well. Overall the band sucked a**. Liz was obviously not "into" the performance - definitely NOT the same Liz that's on the bootlegs I've heard from other concerts this year. Vocal mic never was turned up enough to hear her clearly. Lots of odd silence between songs. I was impressed however, with Liz's guitar playing (and it was 1 Tele and 2 Mustangs, never saw a Strat), but I wish she wouldn't change guitars every f'n song...so distracting.
Sondre Lerche was very impressive - one guy & a Gibson 135 knock-off.
As for Jason Mraz, once you get past the low riding, strategically faded jeans and the mesh trucker hat turned backwards this guy is fantastic. I agree that he's somewhere between Dave Matthews and John Mayer, but this kid is the real deal. I sure wanted to hate him because all the kids went so nuts over him, but the kid can play a mean guitar and holy s**t has he got a great voice. He's overflowing with talent once you get past the teen heart throb thing, he's got amazing stage presence and his band blew Liz off the stage, I'm sad to say. They played amazingly well together for a first record band. I hope her drummer took note, but I'm guessing he was back stage doing crack. With Liz, if you didn't know the tunes you were most likely bored to tears, I'd never heard this Mraz dude and was totally taken in & really did NOT want to be.
This was my third live Liz & by far the worst, but even at that, pretty damn great.
