great show, definitely go see her if you're questioning. she played geetar most of the time too, though not lead. i think i like the band setup a little better than WCSE tour though....her guitarist then just sucked.
ta ta for now

just got back from the liz show. where to begin?
first, i was outside the show, trying to sell my two extra tickets and i see this super hot chick walking out by the bus and kind of towards me, she's w/ two guys. and i think, "uh, that has to be liz." and it is, so i'm almost freaking out, and trying to grab my camera out of my bag, and when she's about 5 feet away, i say, "hey liz, can i take a picture with you," and she says, "sorry, i gotta go." and she jumps in a cab and is off w/ the two guys. so i'm psyched. it was cool. (the past 4 liz shows i've gotten closer and closer to actually meeting her, w/o going stalker on her or anything).
first guy is named patrick parker (i think). kind of generic laid back whiteboy acoustic thing. not terrible, not compelling.
liz comes out w/ band. same "dino" guy that played acoustic for her on the lips tour. bass player, drummer, and keyboard guy. no backup singer, and i think that's good too, b/c liz's voice sounded really full and bright and not wobbly at all. her new band rocks. and is about 50X better than the wcse band. just rocking, and letting loose (no dumb suits and liz in evening gowns, now she's wearing mini-skirts, tall leather boots, and a halter top thingy--she looked hot).
i am in the second row of people stage left of liz's mic in the center of stage. opens w/ whitechocolatespacegg. during the "i'll see you around" part, she sees me and points at me, and sings an entire chorus of it to me. that was awesome. next plays uncle alvarez. not sure the order of the following songs, but she played: mesmerizing, never said, johnny feelgood, why can't i, extraordinary, rock me, help me mary, glory, 6'1", perfect world, divorce song, polyester bride. before she sings little digger she says, "this is a song that means a lot to me" or something, and then cries a little at the end. she sings an a cappella verse off "south dakota" during a guitar change as per request. sings "as god as my squirrell" and says, "that's the kind of lyrics you write when you're 19." last song introduces as "this is my best song." and plays supernova. during the set, people are screaming "i love you!" and she says, "really, it's great to be back on tour headlining, and this is just so great, and right back at you. i love you guys." and then she cried a little. she was pretty happy and emotional the whole time to be feeding off of us.
she did not play any other songs but supernova from whip smart. that sucked. i also wish she played firewalker. i also think she could turn only son into a crazy sonic youth noisy rocker, but these are wishes.
she come out for the encore. plays "one new, one old." hot white cum, w/ the keyboard guy from wallflowers playing along. was that the guy from last tour? maybe. then plays fuck and run. we are screaming, etc. about 1/3 of the people leave. the stage hands are breaking down all the equipment, but leave one mic and one amp. liz's gear is still up there, we are screaming for a good 5-10 minutes, she comes back out, and the place is flipping out. she says, "i had to compose myself back there, this is so overwhelming." i think she cries a little bit again. plays stratford-on-guy and then invites 3 people on stage to sing harmony to flower.
i hate it when people say this on the list, but i think it was the best liz show i've ever been to (out of 5). not optimal set list, but great energy, and the band was great. very rocking it sort of was like when brad and casey would do the falsetto--did not miss janet rains one bit. plus having liz come out and just play guitar by herself is always so old school and awesome.
i hope you guys appreciate this, b/c it's fucking late, and i have to go to work tomorrow morning. i'm just still so up from the show, that i had to let you guys know what happened.
john.
Opening act (name eludes me at the moment) starts a little after 9PM.

I just got back from the concert at the fillmore in SF. Im sure someone out
there will write a much more coherent review than me, so, I wont, since it is
430am and i just got home. But if no I dont see one in tonights digest, i will
write one. Great show though. Lots of fun. Here are the songs she played,
though, not in the order she played them. If anyone has a copy of the show, I
would love to have one...i love recordings of shows I was at for some reason. Im a kook. Please e mail me if you have, or are going to have one. I will love
you forever.
Lots of Guyville, not much whip-smart. Surprizing. I think she understood
which fans were there, and what we wanted to hear.

anyway, it was my first time at the fillmore since I am from NY- and lucky me I also get to go to both nyc shows. after seeing this one- I am so excited. the fillmore is an amazing venue and i love that they give the posters out for free at the end to everyone! the poster is very abstract and so beautiful.
some things poeple missed in their reviews-
the guitars were being changed for dino every single song! we couldnt believe it. liz commented that they would have to probably change the setlist because of it! it was funny.
she has amazing stage presence- my boyfriend who has never seen her but has only heard whipsmart back in the day because of an old girlfriend thought she rocked and was awesome. and he even liked the new stuff which i had a hard time getting into even live. i was upset she didnt do more whipsmart but i loved the fact that she did so much guyville. we even had a bet - he thought for sure she'd play mostly the new album. i knew liz wouldnt do that-i was so happy he was wrong!
i took a ton of amazing pix with my digital. then when she came back on for that 2nd encore- we got up really close- we had the camera taken away by someone who worked there and she deleted all the pix!!! i couldnt believe it. but i was so overwhelmed by liz coming back up after most of the crowd had left that i didnt care at the time.
and that east bay article was great. after seeing liz live again i realize why i love her so much and it felt good to read that article. It reconfirmed my feelings for her and her music and how much it has played a part in the last 10 years of my life.
i think that all of you going to see her in the next month are in for a treat- she just knows how to put on a kick ass show and i think she'll be throwing out lots of surprises. she even mentioned that after getting warmed up she sometimes likes to play things not on the setlist- just something she was in the mood to play. and then she apologized to the band for it. oh yeah, one more thing- she forgot how to play the opening chords to help me mary. she tried over and over and couldnt do it. she gave up and had dino do it. she said that when you have as many songs as she has you start forgetting them.
i think thats it.
