Lord of the Flies Review (# 1-9)
Each picture is a different scene in the book.  Next to it is a summary of what is going on...
1. After Piggy finds the conch, he tells Ralph to blow into it instead of him for fear that it will harm his asthma.  Ralph blows into it attempting to call a meeting with everyone else that was stranded on the island.  They begin to appear, and have their first meeting.
2. After Ralph blows the conch, a crowd of people start coming from the trees.  They are all dressed in black coats, and black hats.  They were the choir, but on the island they are appointed the hunters, with Jack, the leader.
3. At the first meeting, Ralph is appointed leader of the group only because he was the one holding the conch.  After he is appointed, he picks 3 people, including himself, Jack, and Simon to go out and explore the island.
4. One of the first things that Ralph appointed people to do was start a signal fire.  Everyone gathers wood, and they start the fire using Piggy’s glasses, and the sun.  Ralph’s plan was that if the fire is kept going, a passerby of the island could possibly see it, and the children would be rescued.
5. After being on the island for some time, Jack becomes hunter crazy, and wants to kill everything that crosses his path.  He is the first one to become a savage, and after some time, begins to “recruit” others.
6. After being on the island for some time, Jack becomes hunter crazy, and wants to kill everything that crosses his path.  He is the first one to become a savage, and after some time, begins to “recruit” others.
7. When samneric wake up, they see what seems like a monster in the distance on top of the hill.  It moves up and down.  They get scared and run to Ralph and tell him what they have seen.   Everyone claims that this is the “beast.”
8. More and more, Simon begins to hallucinate and become a little crazy.  In the mean time, Jack had killed a pig, decapitated it, and put it’s head on a double sharpened stick.  Simon sees this, and thinks that the pig is talking to him, telling him all kinds of degrading things.
9. Since Jack and Ralph could never agree, Jack decided to split from Ralph’s tribe and begin his own.  Almost every bigun joins Jack’s tribe.  Since Jack was the leader and had become a savage, he teaches all of his tribe his new ways.  They all begin to love to kill, just as their leader does.  But, when they kill things, they do a “dance,” which makes it seem less harsh.
