XE2/WD9EWK on 12 September 2000

Mexican flag

Updated 26 September 2008

This trip was made for one main reason - to obtain a new XE permit for the next 6 months.  If I could get my permit paperwork done by midday or early in the afternoon, I could possibly operate on HF from the club station at the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (UABC) in Mexicali before I had to return home.  In the end, I was able to get all necessary Mexican paperwork done in 90 minutes after crossing the border in downtown Mexicali, and had time to do some HF before driving home.
Getting the XE permit
Rather than elaborate at length here on the process of obtaining a Mexican amateur radio permit, I can refer you to another page I have created with information on obtaining a Mexican radio permit.
My HF operating time
Normally, I prefer to operate the digi-modes like RTTY and Pactor.  Unfortunately, I had problems using the old KAM Plus TNC at the UABC club station on RTTY, and made no Pactor QSOs, so I stayed with SSB for the 2 hours I had at the radio.  Since I was there in the afternoon, I worked the high bands (20/15/10m).  I made 4 QSOs on 20 meters (VE7, W's 5, 6, 7), 2 on 15 meters (JA, W7), and 3 on 10 meters (W's 3, 8).  The QSO to VE7 was a new country for me, when operating from XE2.
Need a QSL from XE2/WD9EWK?
I will send QSL cards to all stations I worked on 12 September, as I did from my Memorial Day (26-29 May) 2000 vacation I took previously.  These QSOs are now listed on my log search page.

If you worked XE2/WD9EWK and want to send me a QSL card through the bureau, please send your card via WD9EWK.  If sending a card direct, use:

And please do NOT write callsigns on the outside of the envelope.
