SAT I, SAT II & ACT
Services
-Most four year colleges on the Atlantic Coast require that a student take the SAT I.  The SAT I is offered seven times a year and students choose when they want to take the test.

-Generally, colleges do not average scores together, so it is best for the student to take the test multiple times.  Although there a  number of suggested strategies, one that is recommended by a number educators is to take the test twice during the Spring of the Junior year and once, if needed, during the fall of the Senior year.

-There is no harm with a student taking the SAT I as a Sophomore, however, the student should plan on taking the PSAT in the fall of the Junior year regardless of when the SAT is taken.  The National Merit Scholarship Program is only offered to Juniors taking the PSAT.

-The SAT II is also offered seven times during the course of the school year. Many of the more selective schools require this test.  If a student is interested in a school that is asking for this test, the student should register using the same packet used to take the SAT I.  Colleges usually request three tests, English Writing, Math I or IIC and an elective.  Each test is one hour long.

-The ACT is another test used by many colleges to
assess whether a student is a good match for the school.  This test is especially popular in the west.  If you are interested in taking the ACT, see your Counselor for registration materials.
