Joule Mobile Project

Report Guidelines

Due Date:       Friday, February 22, 2002

The report for the joule mobile project is worth a total of 15 points. Remember the entire project was worth a total of 60 points (20 points for construction, 25 points for the competition, and 15 for the report.)

In order to receive all 15 points available the report should be as follows:

1)      Title Page – follow lab report format.  {1 pt}

2)      Purpose: Explain in your own words the goal of this project. {1 pt}

3)      A list of the materials used to construct your joule mobile; including type, quantity, size, etc. {1 pt}

4)      Photograph(s) or detailed drawings showing the final design of your vehicle. {2 pts – good photo or quality drawing, 1 pt – poor photo or non-detailed drawing}

5)      Include a section that explains the propulsion apparatus of your vehicle. In other words, what happened when the mass was dropped that caused your vehicle to move. Please you relevant physics terms that apply. {3 pts – great explanation including physics, 2 pts – good explanation that does not contain any physics references, 1 pt brief or simplified explanation}

6)     A statement of the distance your vehicle traveled and your place of finish in the competition. (Note that results have been posted on this website.) {2 pts – both included; 1 pt – only one included}

7)     Discuss how these physics concepts effect the movement of your joule mobile. VECTORS, FORCE, ACCELERATION, FRICTION, WORK, ENERGY, POTENTIAL ENERGY, KINETIC ENERGY, CONSERVATION OF ENERGY, CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM, and  NEWTON'S LAWS OF MOTION

{3 pts – discussed in some detailed, 2 pts – brief simplified explanations, 1 pt – some of the concepts were not discussed }

8)      Improvements – Discuss ways that you could improve upon your design. Understand to not come up with a completely new idea. Use your design and determine how could have gotten more “mileage” out of your vehicle. {1 pt}

9)      Concluding remarks on your vehicle or this project. {1 pt}
