Grading:

Each quarter students will have the opportunity to earn points that will determine their quarter grades. The list below illustrates the various activities and assessments that will be utilized by the instructor to evaluate the student's performance in this class.

Quarter Exam

t.b.a.

The student's quarter grade is a combination of the ratio (stated as a percentage) of the student points earned and the total number of possible points available that particular quarter and the grade earned on the quarter exam. The following scale will determine the final grade for each quarter.

Percentages

Final Grade

A

85.5% - 93.49%

B

77.5% - 85.49%

C

F

**Note: The instructor reserves the right to adjust grading procedures as needed throughout the quarter or year.

Extra Points:

Students are expected to EARN their grade throughout the quarter and/or year by doing their assignments, lab reports, studying for tests, etc. NO ONE will be afforded the opportunity to earn extra points by doing extra work, reports, or assignments. Please do not waste your time or the instructors by asking if there is anything you can do for extra credit; the answer will be "NO"!

However there may be opportunities for everyone in class to earn extra points for various activities throughout the quarter. This will be the only way in which extra points may be accumulated. Be prepared to take advantage of these opportunities because they will not happen often.

Tardies / Absences / Make-ups

Students are encouraged to be on time and in class everyday. It is extremely difficult for students to fulfill the requirements of this course if they continually miss class. Hence, excessive absences will greatly effect your grade in this course.

  1. The school policy will be followed regarding tardies, absences, and make-up work. Please refer to your student handbook.
  2. If your absences exceed 10 per semester you may receive a grade of "F" for that class.
  3. All work is to be submitted to the instructor on or before its due date. All work to be turned in is to be place in the basket at the front of the class at the beginning of the period in which you are in class on the date that it is due. The grade of any work that is received late will be drastically marked down.
  4. You are responsible for keeping up with your own work and assignments. If you are absent, upon your return to school it is your responsibility to ask for assignments missed and to schedule (at the instructor's convenience) any make-up work needed. There are file folders located at the front of the room where students who were absent can find any papers given out to the class during their absence.

NOTE - STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE for scheduling all test and lab make-ups immediately upon returning to school. Students will have one week, beginning the day they return to school, to make up all work missed WITHOUT penalty. After one week has passed the student will be allowed to make up any work missed for 50% credit. After two weeks the student will receive a mark of ZERO for any work not completed.

  5. All make-up work completed for an unexcused absence will only receive 50% of the grade earned.
  6. All make-up work is to be done outside of regularly scheduled class time. (Subject to disciplinary action)
  7. If you are absent the day before a test and no further information is given on that day, you are still responsible for taking the test on the day it was originally scheduled. (The same is true for assignments, projects, and lab due dates.)
  8. Make-up work will cover the same concepts, but may be of a differnet nature than the originally scheduled work.

Rules of Conduct:

We are all here for you to succeed and enjoy this class. Because I care about each of you, I am here to help you. I will not allow you to do anything that will interfere with your or someone else's success in this class.

So that you can learn, so that we can learn, so that I can teach, I have established the following rules to ensure that we will have an orderly classroom.

  1. Do Not Disrupt the Class - This includes all activities that interfere or take away from the learning process. Such things as talking, throwing objects, being out of your seat without permission, applying make-up, combing hair, etc. are not to be done in class.
  2. Follow all Directions the First Time - This logically allows the class to run smoothly.
  3. Bring All Necessary Materials to Class Daily - It is obviously hard to succeed if you are not properly prepared.
  4. No Sleeping, Putting Your Head Down in Class, or Otherwise Not Paying Attention in Class - Learning cannot take place if you are not paying attention. If you do not feel well check out of school, but do not sleep in class.
  5. You are expected to follow all school rules. This includes the uniform policy which will be checked daily. After one warning, the teacher will confiscate all improper items. All confiscated items will not be returned until the end of the school year.

Consequences:

If you choose to break a rule the instructor will take the following actions.

1st Time: Verbal Warning

2nd Time: Behavioral Journal Entry

3rd Time: Call to parents to inform them of the inappropriate behavior.

4th Time: Office Referral

Severe Disruptions: Immediate Office Referral

Daily Procedures:

  1. All assignments, handouts, tests, etc. should be kept after they are returned until after the semester exam.
  2. Please raise your hand to be recognized by the teacher before you address the class or teacher.
  3. Please remain in your seats until the teacher dismisses you. This includes "packing up".
  4. You are expected to be in your assigned seat and ready for class when the tardy bell rings.
  5. Although it is highly discouraged, at appropriate times students will be allowed, at the instructor's discretion, to leave class for personal matters. Anyone believed to be abusing this privilege will have it revoked.

**Note: Failure to follow proper procedures will result in a loss of daily participation points.

Miscellaneous:

Respect for yourself, classmates, and the teacher is a must. Unchristian behavior will not be tolerated.
