Suggestions on What to Take
The following items are things you can't comfortably live without.
Bedding: | Sheets and
other bedding materials (mattress pad, blankets, etc.) are not provided.
You will need twin size sheets.
|
Towels: | Towels aren't
provided either.
|
Phone Cards: | Local service
is free, but to call home or other long distance numbers, you will need one
or more of these.
|
Alarm Clocks: | A must have.
Getting to work on time is very important.
|
Hangers: | You'll need
hangers to hang up your clothes.
|
Money: | You'll need a few hundred dollars for the first couple of weeks. Traveler's checks are a good thing to have. |
The following items are things that aren't necessary, but provide the comforts of home and make life easier.
TV/VCR/DVD: | Can be bought
at Wal-Mart, Target, or other area store. You may end up with 4 TVs in
an apartment, because you won't know what your roommates brought until you
move in.
|
Cordless Phone: | A phone is provided, but a cordless allows for more privacy and can be taken throughout the apartment. Again can be bought. |
Answering Machine: | The only way to get a message. Make sure your roommates don't erase your messages. Can be bought in Orlando. |
Electric Can Opener: | A manual is provided, but an electric can be easier to use. Can be bought, but I found it unnecessary to have one of these. |
Toaster: | Toasters aren't provided. Can be bought. It's nice to have, but can make do without. |
Blender: | For food preparation and for other things. |
Ice Chest: | Nice to have for a trip to the beach or to the grocery store. |
Lunch Box: | Something to take a meal to work in. It's usually cheaper to buy something and take it to work rather than buy food at your work location. |
Computer: | I'd recommend a laptop if you can't live without your computer. There isn't much room for desktops and laptops allow for more privacy and less community access. |
