| ANGELS IN SIXES SUCCESS SHOCKER!!! | ||||||||||||||||||
| Angels' hopes for the season were given an unexpected boost when the Angels phenominally got past the first round of a sixes tournament. Captain Neil Wilkie gave, parts of, this (naturally unbiased) report about the antics. GLORY GLORY TO THE ANGELS |

| A seven man sqaud made up mainly of returning Angels: Wilkie (c), Hutch (c), Jesper, Tonkin, Mike Steel, a new recruit possibly called Simon who is the new right back (need to work on your man management skills Tricky. It now turns out he's called Stewart. Well done Neil.) and some bloke called Peter who filled in for Jesper when he got knackered, took on the best sixes teams St Andrews had to offer in the Raisin Sixes at the end of Freshers Week. The first game got off to an inauspicious start with a 3-0 trouncing. Hmmm, Angels and sixes don't seem to go to well together. In the next game, Angels managed to hold a one goal lead for most of the game before conceding towards the end to allow Troopers a draw. Few can argue though that the result was important. The goal in the game, was supposedly very good. With all the Angels touching the ball. However - JESPER SCORED IT. (I assume that this was properly over-celebrated boys). Qualification was virtually sealed in the game when Angels should have been most up against it, against the University First and Second XI team. However, reminiscent of some of last season's performances, "Angels put on a performance to be remembered as they ran out unexpected one nil winners in a game where Tonkin hardly had a save to make". |

| In the win, sealed through a Mike Steelesque one yard screamer from Tricky, fed by Pete and Mike Steel himself, the Angels prepared for their first ever game in the knockout stages of a sixes tournament. With the last group against Ranmani, beaten 4-1 in the league last season, Angels knew that a 5-0 win would seal second and definite qualification. As it was, a double from Pete and the other from Tricky sealing a Captains' performance meant that the Angels had a nervy wait. However, qualification duly arrived and the Angels were due to meet Strokers. Poor tournament organisation meant that there was a lengthy wait before the ground breaking fixture as there was only one watch for the two games. According to the man himself, Tricky entertained the crowd with a magnificent display of keepie-ups. Hmmm... Once the game started, Angels were under pressure but resolute defending and the odd bit of good fortune meant that with a minute to go, penalties were beckoning. This was not to be though as a well constructed move meant that the Strokers scored and put paid to Angels' hopes of victory. It has to be said however that this success was one that the Angels seem keen to repeat, and with the Division Two campaign due to start soon, they appear to be full of confidence that this season, a tilt for the title may not be out of the question. Congratulations boys and good luck. |
