Submarine Groups Merge
The Magnolia Rebel/William J. Cheek Chapter of the Submarine Veterans of World War II and the Tullibee Base, Submarine Veterans have merged. Although the two organizations will retain their separate identify, meetings will be shared, and projects undertaken that will be of benefit to the submarine organizations.
The Submarine Veterans of World War II includes members who served in the submarine service up to December 31, 1946 with associate members being from various other military organizations. The Submarine Veterans Inc. is comprised of submarine veterans of World War II as well as those serving in the submarine service to the present date.
Projects undertaken range from supporting the Dolphin Scholarship Foundation, which provides scholarships to qualified candidates; participating in local patriotic activities, memorial burials, providing scholarships to two homeport sailors, and the construction of a memorial to the USS Tullibee (SS284), a submarine that was sunk during World War II. |
