Workroom
The largest room in the Hall, this is where the majority of the work is completed. One door on the outside wall of the room leads to the large dying vats where generations of Weavers have mixed the secret dyes that the Hall is loathe to share with others. Another door on the same wall leads into the library, its shelves filled with books on various techniques and textiles. Looms of varying sizes are arranged throughout the room, ranging from the huge tapestries looms to the delicate sisal looms. Spinning wheels encircle the looms as thread from the various sources available are spun into the spools required by the various looms. Cutting and sewing tables line another wall, each surrounded by numerous glowbaskets for illumination.
Illuxi is here.
Obvious exits:
Vat Room Main Hall Library
Illuxi sits at a work bench poking at a pile of cloth. "Is it supposed to be lopsided.. and tri-toned?" Nexus cocks his little head to one side, while the other sgets tangled in loose thread. "Sigh, sorry Nexi.. Terr! Stop that!" She reaches out and grabs his tail and tries to dissentagle him. "Now look.. stop, no.."

Nandia comes striding into the workroom, still laughing over something said to her earlier in the hallway. Her face is flushed with amusement and perhaps a little bit of embarassment, but the blush matches well with her copper curls. As she passes by a group of giggling apprentices, she gives them a beautific smile, making the younger weavers blink in amazement. "She must be planning a quiz, or something..." One of the appies states to her friend, just low enough not to be heard
Illuxi manages to get nipped twice during the untangling, but it does get done. The laughing makes her very nervous. Glancing around quickly, she wonders if there's still time to hide this.. thing she made. "A..a..yes? No?" Mumbling more she tries to breathe and watch the Jman anxiously. Doomed she tinks, very doomed.
Lucky for the apprentices that Nandia /doesn't/ hear them, as her amusement last only as long as it takes to get to the nearest workbench... Which just happens to be Illuxi's. "Why, hello there," states the journeyman to the younger girl, pleasantly enough. "Having some difficulty, I see?" she then asks.
Illuxi can't get any paler, so she almost faints instead. "Ah..ah.." Stammering her hands tighten around Terr, making him hiss and chirp unhappily. "Um.. well..uh.." Taking a steadying breath she tries to speak, but can't. Instead she nods jerkily.
Nandia isn't a two headed tunnel snake, ya know... However, in order to try and set the apprentice at ease, the tiny woman beams another friendly smile and leans over to look over Illuxi's.. ah.. handiwork. "Mind if I take a look?" Yes, you heard correctly... The journeyman is politely /asking/ to see rather than just jumping in and pointing out mistakes. Thread carefully though, as it may be a trap...
Illuxi breathes rapidly, despite the fact that the Journeyman is not a two headed tunnel snake. "Um... sure.." The words are faint, but at least they are words. Her pale white cheeks flush though, making them a bright scarlet. "G..go..ah-ead."
The journeyman doesn't quite hear the apprentice, but takes the girl's blush for a yes anyway. Reaching down, she picks up the multicolored, tightly sewn and tangled.. thing. "Um... Well... Ah..." Nandia isn't quite sure /what/ it was supposed to be, though she has a few ideas... Non of them which make sense. "First of all, it looks as though your material was cut crookedly, giving you a difficult edge to hem." That is, if this /thing/ was meant to have a hem... Cough. "Secondly, the stitches are too tight, which has caused your fabric to bunch and get tangled..."
Illuxi nods and tries to look at the Journeyman, but blushes stronger and ends up looking at the.. thing instead. Nodding numbly she mummbles agreement and hesistantly gets out her notes and writes some of it down, but her already illegibal handwritting is far worse than usual. "O-oh..al..alright." Thinking for a moment, and gathering her courage she speaks to the..thing. "It..it..was supposed to be..a..a.." Her throat closes and she can't get the last word out as her courage fails. Oh dear.
Nandia raises a brow before shaking her head. "A..? A what, my dear?" A sock? A slipper? A kidlet's rucksack? The journeyman has no idea, but instead of pressing the question, she suddenly puts up a hand and shakes her head again. "Never mind. No need to answer. I'm sure that if you redo it with the advice I've given, you'll see some improvements. However, this time, feel free to use one of the many patterns laying around." Realizing then that she must sound all doom and gloom, Nan offers a little bit of praise to lessen the sting of her simple criticism. "But, I must say, those are rather .. nice.. ah... colors."
Illuxi nods hesitantly. "Um..ye..yes. They..are." Her breathing starts to even out, but she still is no where near ease. "Uh..um.. where..where can I f-find the patterns?" She timidly glances at the Journeymans face before going back to the ..thing. Terr however does more than look with a squaking chirp he tries to grab it, but he is still restrained by Luxi's hand. "I..I couldn't find them."
Nandia is about to answer, when suddenly she notices the firelizard hiding under the scraps upon the table. "Oh!" she exclaims, reaching down to push aside a few of the larger pices of material. "Isn't he just /adorable/! What's his name? Is he yours?" She then turns her attention back onto the apprentice, while finger points to the 'thing' and to the flit, and then back again. "He certainly likes that, at least... Did you make it for him?"
Illuxi shakes her head hesitantly. "He..his name is Ter-Terra-nt. Uh.. n..but he li-likes it." err wriggles froom and jumps trying to nab the end. "He is..abor..um..cute." She hehs anxiously while her eyes dart around, looking for her other blue. "Um, heismineandsoistheotherone, butitseemsI'velosthimandIthinkI'llgiveittohimsinceh elikesit." Luxi blinks and hehs again, turning to face the Journeyman again.
Blink. Blink. "Ahh... Well.. that's nice." Oddly enough, Nandia understood all of that, as she too once had a similar speach problem. Except, whereas Illuxi's is caused by simple shyness, Nan's was caused by a mix of slyness and the fact that she thought that talking fast could get her out of trouble, quick. "You should give it to him, and in the meantime, the patterns are over there, in that wooden cabinet, on the second shelf... More than likely they're under a pile of rags, as not everyone uses them anymore.. Though they should..."
Illuxi nods and smiles shyly. "Ok..I'll give it to him..um.. s-second shelf.." She awkawardly rises and flees to the wooden cabinet. Hastily looking through the dusty patterns, she fails to find the one she wants twice. "H-here..this is it.." Not loud enough for the Journeyman to hear it, but it steadies here nonetheless. Returning slowly to the work bench she puts down the hat pattern.
Slim brows are raised again, when Nan sees what kind of pattern Illuxi picked out. Reaching across the apprentice and taking the 'thing' away from Terrant, the journeyman then holds it up and inspects it again. "You know, now that I look at it again, I see that you didn't do such a bad job after all. Apart from the crooked sides and overtight stitching, the only one thing that you really forgot was the brim support..." She smiles and then moves to point out a section on the pattern to the younger girl. "See here? That extra piece they show is the support. You measure that instead of the material, and it will give you a better fit for the head of the wearer. Plus, when ready, you sew this into the inside lining, and it will help keep the shape of the hat."
Illuxi stares blankly at the Journeyman. "W-wah..Oh. Um..ok." She looks at the pattern and sees that the words that ran through her ears do indeed match the patterns instructions. Her blush fades as she studies this and nods. "There..is another thing though.." Ahem, cough. "The woman who..who requested it..wouldn't ..let me measure her head.." Yes, she's guessing on more than just how to make the hat.
"Oh," is Nandia's response to that. "Yes, well... that can make things a little more difficult..." Gee, isn't she glad that she's no longer an apprentice, and that her status alone will give her enough power to demand a measuring from a client. "Did you try guessing? Say, making a circle with your hands that's approximately the size of her head, and measuring that. Or, perhaps measuring someone who appears to have the same size.. ah.. head... as hers?" Ok, so maybe that's not the best advice to offer an apprentice. "Luckily, hats aren't like gloves, or underclothes, or any other manner of attire. They can be made by using a drawstring along the base, which makes it adjustable... However, if you want.. I can always speak to the client and demand a proper measuring..."
Illuxi now wears a look of balant relief. "It would be nice, but I don't know.. I w-wouldn't want to make a nusience of myself." The annoyed twitch of her lips though shows she did indeed mind, but she couldn't be rude. Never. "She wanted a replacement for a hat she already had.. it didn't look like it had a drawsring or anything of the sort. I thought possibly that it has to be snug, because she came here on a dragon." She ponders the other methods suggested, but shakes her head. "I tried guessing but I'm afraid it might have been too small, or too big..or too oddly shapped for the woman." Not that the womans head was oddly shapped, but you can never be sure of that.
At the mention of "dragon," Nandia understands. "Was she a rider?" the journeyman asks. "That might explain why she either didn't want, or didn't have time to be measured. Some riders are like that... They're so wrapped up with what's happening between them and their lifemate that they kinda forget that there are other people around... People who need to get stuff done." She thinks for a minute, before snapping her fingers. "Aha! If you could get your hands on her /old/ hat, then that would solve your problem. But seriously though, barring that, I'll be glad to ask for you. No nuisance at all." See? Told ya she wasn't a two headed tunnel snake.
Illuxi shrugs slightly, making her robe huff. "Well, she was looking for the other woman who was picking up an outfit I had made for her and my client wrapped the other into letting me at least peer at her, but she seemed impatient and very unwilling to spruce up that horribly drap outfit she had." Thinking again she frowns. "I don't know if I could do that.. get the old hat. she seemed.. fond of it. She is a rider.. she mentioned her lifemate.. um Gio..gath.. I think. Something about him wanting to go get clean again." Hmming to herself she considers, "Well, I suppose if you certainetly wouldn't mind even in the smallest way.. please?"
After Illuxi finishes rambling nervously about the rider, Nandia laughs and nods her head. "Certainly. That's what we journeyman are for, you know. Helping apprentices out..." Well, maybe it's a little more complicated than that, but... The younger girl should get the idea. Giving back the first attempt of the hat to the firelizard on the table, Nan turns to the apprentice and states, "Well, I have a bit of work to do, however, if there's anything else that I can help you with? I'm certain that, now that you have the pattern, and once I extract the exact measurements you need, that you'll do just fine on that hat. But still, come to me if you need anything, alright?"
Illuxi smiles and nods while Terr happily plays with His hat. "Um..alright then. Nothing mroe at the moment, but if I need anymore help certainetly."
Nandia nods her head again and clasps her hands together. "Great! Well, I'll be seeing you, apprentice. Do take care." Back to her old professional self, the journeyman then turns on her heel and moves off to another worktable, where some of her students have been nervously awaiting her.
