Unrequited

I cast my words of love into the sea And I bade them follow you But the tide came rolling in And brought them back to me. I lent my voice to the sea breeze So my love would reach your ears, But no call e'er came in return I lost you forever to the swirling seas. The weeks into months into years I floated as the foam upon the ocean, But all my wandering came to naught And the salt of the sea was mingled with tears. Time and again I heard the dolphins cry As the water danced and tickled my feet.
