      Sadder Things 2
After All

The Young give up so easily
The Old...they cling tenaciously
Is it experience I wonder that teaches us
Life is worth living...despite the fuss
It still is worth it--after all
So beautifully worth it
After all.

Some don't believe there is a way
To continue on when life turns gray
That so much joy is yet to be
If only they could learn to see
It's still worth it after all
So joyously worth it
After all.

But some it seems cannot see past
A love affair that's breathed its last
When phone calls do not come from him
Then life turns dark, and gray, and grim
And they feel that life's not worth it, after all
It seems it's just not worth it
After all.

So those of us who are left behind
Struggle on through the tears that blind
"Was there something," we wonder, "We could have said
That would have made her choose life instead?
Convinced her that life was worth it, after all?
That life is really worth it,
After all."

UNTITLED

They are always asking why
But they never want to know
They think it's enough to express concern
Then turn around and go

They'll never know that someone's wishing
They'd just once glance back and see
That the someone who cries silently
Is the no one who is me

They'll ask the when and where and waht
They'll get answers never true
Because the who and why and how
Is painfully taboo

I hate them for their laughter
I hate them for playing dumb
I hate them 'cause they're supposed to help
And because they never come

There's no blame to be placed here
Blame the switch, the bat, the door
Do what you're told, and don't talk back
The hurting's best ignored

You hear the tales of households where
The thrashings never come
A dream they are, but the nightmares here,
I call them Dad and Mom.
