Dear Friend,
Fear is satan’s tool to weaken the believer. The fear of the dark is one of the most common phobias faced by young people. But we need to remind ourselves that though the problem is common, we are not common people. We are the children of the Almighty, the loving and the living God. As privileged children of God, we have the assuring and comforting presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. John encourages us in I John 4:4 ‘You are of God, and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world’. We are the army of the victorious God so we need not fear the powers of the dark.
We need to saturate ourselves with the scriptures and claim God’s promises when we are afraid. God promises us in Isaiah 41:13 “For I am the Lord, your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you”. Psalm 91:5 exhorts us “You need not fear any dangers at night”. The song of David in Psalm 23 gives us strength “ Even if I walk through a very dark valley, I will not be afraid because you are with me” God’s powerful presence drives away all kinds of fear. Practicing God’s presence every moment of the day is the best way to fight the fear of the dark.
