Best Non Kiss: The X-Files:
To date or not to date was the question since Season One of The X-Files. Should the two FBI agents share more than their paranormal case load? Body language, smirks, innuendos, sighs and longing looks fed the burning tension between the two until Fall 1998. An episode devoted to alternate realities and parallel lives offered up two sets of Scully and Mulder on one ship in the Bermuda Triangle. Sure enough, their paths did cross. The denouement that fans were waiting for finally happened, more or less. In a frenetic chase up and down the corridors of the ocean-liner, the "real" '90s Mulder ran into the '40s Scully. What did the tall, handsome fellow do but bend down and plant a hot kiss on the petite creature. The damsel in distress did what all '40s ladies likely did -- punched the guy in the mug! Not exactly a kiss from outer space.

Jade's Retort:

But a kiss none the less! So what if it wasn't the 90's Scully we all know and love, it was still Scully at heart. What tv guide neglected to mention was that in that same episode Mulder told the 90's Scully, "I love you". Her response wasn't all that lovely, but still. MSR day all the way!

Couples Therapy:
Mulder and Scully, your perfectly paranormal couple. Not quite a "real-time" couple. Even their long-awaited, much-anticipated kiss wasn't all that authentic: it didn't happen in the same time-line (a contemporary Mulder smooched a 1940s Scully). They've been dancing the mating ritual since day one, overtly in some episodes, but for the most part viewers have feasted on a long-smouldering, non-verbal flame of passion between the two FBI agents that could combust at any moment.
Compatibility: ***** (They're two parts of one unsolved equation)
Chemistry: ***
Communication: ***** (Intellectually, yes) * (Emotionally, no -- Mulder's soul is a closed book)
Picture Perfect: ***** (They both wear trench coats!)

Compatibility is absolutely correct. There is no Mulder without Scully. And no Scully without Mulder. What do you mean no chemistry?! They risk their lives for one another, they cry on each other's shoulders, hold each other and flirt like teenagers on good days. Not to mention the sexual tension they share. No chemistry my ***. And of course they have emotional communication! They both maybe closed books, but their souls aren't. How many times have they talked about something that hurt them deeply to put into words, bared their souls to one another? Mulder and his sister, Scully and her cancer. Picture perfect? :) I'd say so. Scully so nicely fits into Mulder's arms, not to mention they both have matching cell phones. Altar-bound; As much as I hate to say it, they're right. It very unlikely that moose and squirrel will get hitched, but you never know, maybe Chris Carter will be nice and make our dreams come true.

February 14 1998: Tv Guide:

Romance

Scully, upon entering the Fox's den, would cease to be aloof, alluring and always rational FBI agent X-Philes have come to respect. She would simply cease to be. Mulder, as all true believers will admit, would toy with his conquest, be some what amused, then soon tire of the playful romance and return to his adult videos and musty files cluttering the basement office. Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are always on the precipice, forever on the brink of succumbing to their hormonal urges. This resulting tension is a brand mark of the show and would disappear faster than an unidentified alien were the two ever to share the same bungalow.

February 14 1998: A Lovers touch:

Lets face it folks for better or for worse Mulder and Scully will always be together. They've brought each other happeness in a world full of danger and mistrust. Scully is Mulder's guiding light, she keeps him honest, on the straight and narrow when he goes out on a limb. She's saved him a million times over, with her science and her rational view of the world. And Mulder? Along with taking away her personal life he has shown her... ?
