INFORMATION; The name John O’Brien was probably given to him on behalf of his Dad’s sister, Angela's, husband who was named John O’Brien. He went by "Jack." in the early years per his daughter Hazel. John changed his name to Jay Webb between 1923-1927. It is believed that he changed his mind as he got involved in the Mofia and he wanted out. (He is not in the St. Louis, Missouri City Directories from 1924-1926.) Johns nationality was Irish, English, French and Indian per daughter Hazel. He was a Business Agent for the Union that traveled a lot throughout the mid-west, per daughter Hazel Webb Malandra. When John and Doris divorced, they continued to keep in touch. Goldie, his second wife, visited with Doris whenever she was in town. John lived with Doris’s mother when he was having marriage problems with Goldie. Residence at time of death was 2113A Cushing in St. Louis, Mo.
John enlisted at Fort McDowell, California on March 16, 1918. He was a Private for the Aviation Sec Sig C. at Kelly Field Tex until discharge date of July 27, 1918. My understanding is that he never traveled anywhere during this military. John sent a letter to his father or his uncle David that said the following; "We sale for France tomorrow. Come on in the water is fine." The family never heard from John again. In fact, his father thought he had been killed at war per a newspaper article that he wrote many years later. It was shared that John's father was very brutal and that John needed to get away from him.
