2.      Prayer occurs in different ways

·        As needed in the situation you are put

b.      I had this view early on in my Christian life

c.       As I matured I found the following to be true

d.      We do not pray for things outside of God’s control

e.       There are rules to prayer in which we function as we communicate, ask and believe

C.     Jesus’ Skeleton Prayer

1.      Read Matthew 6:5-13

2.      Here we see

a.       Vain repetition is just that

b.      Prayer is a private, personal thing

c.       A model of how we should pray

d.      A type of things to include

Note:  We will examine this more in full later…

D.     The Lord’s Prayer

1.      Read John 17

2.      Here we see

a.       God does not violate His own system

b.      Jesus is concerned about us

c.       One prayer is very, very effective in God’s power.

E.      P C T I P L C Prayers (Or the Practice of Prayer)

1.      Practice implys that one works at getting better at it.  Notice the fliip side of this is we are told not to practice sin in Galatians 5:21 (prasso or to do repeatedly or habitually), Ephesians 4:19 (ergasia or to do for profit or business) and a positive reference in 5:13 (hexis or habit).

2.      Jesus included several things in His Skeleton Prayer

3.      We are to include these ourselves when we pray

4.      Include the following:

a.       Praise              for who God is

b.      Confession       for what you have done

                                                                                       i.      1 John 1:8-10

c.       Thanks             for what God has given

                                                                                       i.      1 Thess 2:13

d.      Intercession      for what others need

                                                                                       i.      Philippians 1:3

e.       Petition                        for what you need

                                                                                       i.      Acts 4:29

                                                                                     ii.      “The Prayer of Jabez” (Dr. Bruce H. Wilkinson)

‘Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!” And God granted him what he requested.’ (1 Chronicles 4:10)

·        Oh that you would bless me indeed

                                                                                                                                                             ii.      The indeed is an emphatic in the Hebrew and like adding five explanation points

·        Oh that you would enlarge my border

                                                                                                                                                             ii.      If you are being Godly with what you have, ask for more.

·        Oh that Your hand would be on me

                                                                                                                                                               i.      Request that the Father would be with him

                                                                                                                                                             ii.      God will answer this request in such a fashion that doing it without Him should feel uncomfortable.

·        Oh that You would keep me from harm

                                                                                                                                                               i.      His namesake was pain

                                                                                                                                                             ii.      Request to keep from temptation.

                                                                                                                                                            iii.      We do not ask to be delivered from evil until we have first requested to be steered clear of evil.

n.        The book, “The Screwtape Letters” made quite a big deal of appropriate prayer positions only to end up that such things are irrelevant

                                                                                       i.      The disciples did not ask for the ability to preach or sing

                                                                                     ii.      Prayer is a essential element of every Christian life

                                                                                    iii.      Despite this privilege to every believer, prayer is the least exercised power of the average believer

                                                                                   iv.      The ministry of prayer is due in every true Christians life
