The vagrant finds shelter beneath the old oak tree For tonight this will be his roof , you see No one understands why he could not stay Most people want him to keep away Because he talks to no-one there All everyone ever does is stop, stand and stare
In times past he was happy For then he had his dear wife Mary She understood what he could do They kept it to themselves , no-one knew
Many a year has passed by Twos long ago when Mary did die But he is happy and contented Because he can still see And daily talks and embraces Mary
Together they will sit Under that big oak tree And chatter away about times past And he will sit and giggle with glee
For the vagrant does not care What people think of him He knows his love with Mary will never dim For there is more to this life Than just a plain tired body
Not so far in the distant future He will meet again with his beloved Mary Once more they will dance and sing Once more together under that big oak tree In spirit and eternally free and happy.
