COUNTER
(1) The counter drops onto the web page outside the borders of a text box, below the last text box where you have been working.

(2) Scroll down to the bottom of the text boxes.

(3) Click on the Add-ons button.

(4)  Click on Counter.

(5)  Adjust the settings according to how you want the counter to appear.

(6)  The counter will now drop onto the screen and you can click on it and use the handles to move it about.

(7) To delete the counter, click on it, this being the only box on your page which is open (a single click will do) and then click on the Delete button on the tool bar above.

That's all. End of lessons on web site building 101. Now you can put up a pretty respectable web page with a few bells and whistles.
PEDAGOGY OF THE SEVEN SHINING PATHS

Those interested in the educational psychology of this issue will have tried the Geocities Tutorial first. Now my experience with GT as a neophyte was that it was confusing and frustrating. Confusion and frustration are punitive. So too is the wasting of time on trial-and-error knowing that a WELL DESIGNED TEACHING MACHINE SCRIPT WOULD HAVE AVOIDED IT. My time is valuable. So too is the time of a million others who may have experienced the same difficulty. Add to that the fact that person-to-person communications with Geocities are not going to get you very far.

Now contrast that with the "seven shining paths". Every effort has been made to anticipate the difficulties the student might have. Moreover, since "THE STUDENT/CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT", any failure to enable the student to learn these web site building procedures "first time through" will be CHEERFULLY corrected. After all, my goal is like that of the properly motivated builder of any machine. I want it to be as close to perfect as possible. How can I achieve that criterion if people do not point out flaws?

This exercise then demonstrates the modern teaching machine. Here are the main features:

(1)
Positive reinforcement is used to the maximum vs. negative reinforcement;

(2) With any iteration of the teaching machine presenting its lesson to a class of students, we can explicitly or implicitly plot the sub-lessons against the percentage of students who meet criterion, ie understand the maze if you will allow calling it that,
"first time through".

(3) Flaws in design can be pointed out QUICKLY and by LARGE NUMBERS OF STUDENTS because of the marvel of the Internet and so many connected computers.
Upgrading of the courseware can be achieved rapidly, at small cost and with minimal difficulty. Corrections may be built into the text-monologues or in post-monologue Q-A sets.

(4) Therefore the "roboprofessor" rapidly moves toward becoming an autonomous, "stand-alone" machine,
never again needing a human instructor for the subject matter covered.

(5) This teaching machine approach can be applied to thousands of subjects online. It will have a revolutionary impact on education delivered by Internet which currently is dispensed by thousands of colleges and universities.

The logic of the marketplace, in this case the marketplace for education over the Internet tells us irrefutably that:
