.The Bride & Groom. Alexis Denisof was born February 25th, 1966 in Salisbury, Maryland. His father's side were of Russian descent and his mother is from Philadelphia. He is best known for playing Wesley Wyndam-Pryce in the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off Angel. Most recently he's appeared in Alyson's show, How I Met Your Mother, as a news reporter.
Their relationship was beset with many false starts at first. "It
was flirtation at first sight with Alexis," Alyson told London Times.
"I was trying to pursue him, but he did not want to date someone he
was working with. [Alyson also told Hello magazine that "He'd just
gotten out of a not-so-wonderful relationship and wasn't ready to
get involved."] So we just developed a friendship, with me hoping it
would lead to something else. After a time, I got bored with him not
wanting to date me. I started seeing someone else and, suddenly, Alexis
did not like that. But I kept on seeing this other guy and told Alexis:
'Let's just be friends.' That seemed to make him more enthusiastic than
ever. When my other relationship ended, I noticed that Alexis had changed
towards me. Flirtation had developed into truly caring about each other.
I said: 'What are we going to do about it now? The attraction is too
hard to ignore.'" A year of friendship took them to a year relationship
and then Alyson got her proposal, under a rainbow. "We were driving to
his family's house for Christmas 2002. We bought some delicious food and
wine and had a picnic by a beautiful lake in California's Napa Valey,"
Alyson told Hello magazine. "I was lying on my back, staring at the sky,
when Alexis proposed, producing this made-to-measure diamond engagement
ring." She told London Times, "My brain shut off in shock, I said: 'Oh,
no.' He looked amazed as I recovered and said: 'It's a yes.'"
Like myself, you might be asking, why where Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen guests at their wedding? Well, when Alexis returned to America after living in England for several years, he was too broke to afford his own place and he couldn't find any work. Luckily, Mary Steenburgen, whom he had met and befriended while making the TV movie, Noah's Ark, took him in, and he lived with Mary and her husband, Ted Danson, for a year. "Ted and Mary are my saviors," he has said. "I definitely wouldn't have made it without their psychological and emotional support."
I haven't found out why Frankie Muniz yet and I want to know if
Sarah Michelle, David Boreanez or Joss Wheadon were there!
The groom did not wear a tuxedo, he opted instead to wear a
Hugo Boss suit. "I wore a black suit, bordering on a tux,"
Denisof says. "I always feel that tuxedos are indoor, nighttime
things, and this was an outdoor, daytime thing."
Classical music was playing as the bride walked down the aisle. She also had a five dollar bet with her father that he would cry as they took that journey to the altar, "At one point on our walk I said, 'How are you doing?' And he said, 'So far I am winning the five dollars,'" Alyson told In Style. "But when he handed me off to Alexis and Alexis hugged him, I won."
The couple exchanged wedding vows that they had written themselves,
under two trees whose branches twined, which the couple
took as a symbol of growing together.
The reception was also outdoor and surrounded by trees that were laced with hundreds of twinkle lights that changed color after each course of the meal. The main course was lobster. Their first dance was to a sweet rendition of "Over the Rainbow" (a nod to Alexis' proposal) and then to a tune that Alyson loves called "No Tengo Dinero" by Los Umbrelos. The song accompained the first dance the couple ever shared on the set of Buffy. A 16-piece orchestra from West Coast Music played at the reception, a DJ was also on hand for the entire weekend. Perfect endings of Napa Valley created their four-tier wedding cake.
The fantasy like dinner party and dancing was followed by a late night
dip by all in the natural mineral water filled grotto. For some
party-goers the festivites lasted until the early morning.
A martini reception in a grotto with hot springs, where childhood pictures of Alyson and Alexis were projected onto fabric stretched between palm trees, got the party going on Friday. Their wedding planner was Rob Smith of Laurels in Los Angeles. He says, "Alyson wept for almost an hour. A lot of the guests were crying too." Their festivities inclued some fun additions, Alyson wanted a photo booth to amuse the guests and Alexis wanted a trampoline so they could jump for joy about being married. The photo album full of black-and-whites from the photo booth brought some enexpected shots, "Those things I will look at and laugh at and treasure always," said Alyson, "It brought out a new side of people." Alexis added, "Some guests got a little X-rated, showing parts of their bodies we didn't need to see." Thier wedding was featured in the February 2004 issue of InStyle Magazine. Angel was filming when Alexis and Alyson got married, he was abset from the episode "Destiny" episode "Destiny" due to the wedding. In the series continuity of the series, they said he took time off to recover from the trauma of shooting the cyborg duplicate of his father.
Also, as a side note I thought that you might find interesting, Alyson
and Alexis are godparents to Joss Whedon's (the creator of the Buffy
universe) son Arden.
