Jesus the Way to the Father. (John 14:1-14)
"Do not be worried and upset," Jesus told them. "Believe in God and believe also in me.
There are many rooms in my Father's house, and I am going to prepare a place for you. I would not tell you this if it were not so.
And after I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to myself, so that you will be where I am.
You know the way that leads to the place I am going."
Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; so how can we know the way to get there?"
Jesus answered him, "I am the Way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me.
Now that you have known me," he said to them, "you will know my Father also, and from now on you do know him and you have seen him."
Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, that is all we need."
Jesus answered, "For a long time I have been with you all; yet you do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. Why, then do you say, 'Show us the Father'?
Do you not believe, Philip, that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I have spoken to you," Jesus said to his disciples, "do not come from me. The Father, who remains in me, does his own work.
Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. If not, believe because of the things I do.
I am telling you the truth: whoever believes in me will do what I do - yes, he will do even greater things, because I am going to the Father.
And I will do whatever you ask for in my name, so that the Father's glory will be shown through the Son.
If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it.
Inside the human body of Jesus, was the Divine Godhead.
God was in Jesus as the Son, yet inside the Son was the unity of the Three Divine Godhead.
When we became Christian, we invite Jesus into our lives and hearts. Jesus made His 'home' in our lives, if we allow Him. When Jesus enters into our lives, He does so in the Divine Godhead. Jesus is Spirit, therefore in the Spirit; He enters into our lives. What form of Spirit is Jesus?
Jesus as human being had human spirit, human will and desire, but above all He had Divine Spirit of God, Divine will, Gods Mind and Heart.
'Jesus is the Way, truth and life'
No one can enter, to be One with God, except through Jesus Christ, in His human spirit in unity with ours, of which He had first and foremost to purify and sanctify, then proceeds to be united with the Father, through the Divine Spirit that is in Jesus. God's Spirit that is in Jesus is never separated from the Spirit of the Father. Therefore in the Mystical Body of Christ or glorified human Jesus and all human being, who had submitted to Him, became One in heart and mind. This is how Jesus as Man, draws us to the Father, that is in Himself. Even though God is in the Mystical Body of Christ, yet at the same time He is every where. He proceeds with the work of redemption and salvation through Jesus, and the work of the creation and renewal of the physical and spiritual, simultaneously.
That is how Man discovered God, through Jesus Christ, or else He would still be an unreachable, fearsome, powerful, but strange God, who spoke with voices, like those of flashes of lightning and crushes of thunders, as expressed at the holy Mount Sinai.
No one dares to climb up that mountain, as the glory of God would melt their bodies and blinded their eyes. The brilliant glory of God is way too bright for the physical eyes and body. Therefore God transformed and modified Moses, into the purity of God, before He brought him up to the mountain.
After the resurrection, ascension and descend of the Holy Spirit, Jesus' glorified body and human spirit, were able to be One with God's chosen people on earth. His Spirit dwells and makes His 'home' in the hearts of the people.
'Makes His home in our lives and hearts'. Jesus does not want to be a redundant guest, who was passive and cold towards the action of His host. He wants to be active in the life of the host, who invites Him in. He wants to share in their joy, sorrow and their triumph. He wants to be part of everything we do, even the dreams and visions that we had. Jesus wants to share our human yoke, or cross, which was rightly ours, because of our sin.
Through the Spirit of God, sinful and disgusting sinners could be purified, through the love and mercy of Jesus Christ, so to enter into God's domain, that is the Kingdom of Heaven, without fear of blindness or spiritual stroke. Spiritual stroke here means extreme different in the disposition of the Spirit. Like extreme cold air, met with the same of hot air.
The disciples had witnessed the power and authority of Jesus; by the words that He spoke, actions and supernatural phenomena that only God could expressed. He rose Lazarus from the death, blind could see, sins forgiven, walking of Jesus on the water, undisturbed by the rising waves, winds and storms. He had power and authority over His own destiny. Surely He was the promised Messiah, that they had patiently waited for, that would 'never dies'.
Yet, they were disappointed, when Jesus insisted that they accepted the truth that He had to leave them alone for a while, but He would return to them after a 'little while'. On the third day of His death, Jesus would rise again, but still their communion would be temporary, as He was no longer an ordinary human being, but glorified by God. The law and systems of nature that God gave and instilled into the world and creation would no longer apply to Him. But He would be allowed to appear for certain occasions, into our time, space and domain, so to reveal to them about the truth and to give them the Gifts of the Holy Spirits, so that they could function as representative of Jesus. Even after the resurrection and Jesus apparitions to them, yet their physical bodies could not hold the mystery of God, They were overjoyed to be able to see Jesus again, yet the mysteries were overwhelming. They were in spiritual shock, until the coming of the Holy Spirit, who as God, would come through Jesus to modify the body of human, so to prepare them to accept the mystery of God.
After their willingness to sacrifice their families, left everything, so to follow Jesus, they are willing to climb a step higher; that is to follow Jesus until His death. But they did not predict the consequence of that discipleship.
They did not know that Jesus would not be allowed to manifest His power and authority as God, but His human nature had to take the front line.
He had to suffer and die a lonely death. God was watching, consoling and strengthening Him to persevere till His final ordeal, as prove of His love, mercy and compassion for His own kind, that is humankind. If He proves worthy, then He would be glorified, thus fitted to be the Lord, God and master of human race.
That was an unredeemable consequence of the sin of the first Adam and Eve, who watched, in the depth of his sorrow, for the One Man, that God had chosen to reverse the free mistake that he had made. Jesus had revealed His authority and power over all natures and systems, but the final one is death.
The consequence of sin is death. Jesus had to pay the price for that sin, as Representative of Man. He had to abide by the will of God. The Representative of Man, called the Son of Man, would have to unite with all sinful Man, together with the whole outcome of the fall. Everything then rested on His shoulders.
Earth was once in the full domain of God, of which God had the fullness of power and authority to execute whatever He willed. But Man allowed themselves to be fooled, by inviting the serpent, who offered the 'forbidden fruits', which was the 'first door', created by Man, for the entry of the Devils and his spirits. Paradise was one of the greatest Gifts of God to Man, but they invited God's enemy to share in God's property. This also applies to our personal life. The whole human body of ours is supposed to be God's property and His masterpiece of which, like the greatest artist, drawing on a piece of his work. Man had invited other artist instead of God to draw on that piece of God's work.
They could not accept the words and warning of Jesus that He had to die a lonely death. They wanted to follow Him and together they reach their destinies together, but Jesus predicted, that even Peter, the strongest, would still betrayed Him. They had hope and vision of their destinies as glorious one. Jesus would reign as eternal king, whereas they would be His ministers in various portfolios.
In the Garden, they were torn apart by grieves, to face the uncertainties of their missions. Jesus had never told a lie to them, so that could not possibly take those words of Jesus thus. Jesus would surely fulfill His own words, but how?
Surely God, the Almighty would not allow Jesus to suffer and die alone, but why?
The reality had to be faced as the persecuting soldiers and chief priests finally approached Jesus. What were they supposed to do? Peter drew his sword, so to protect and defend Jesus, yet to his dismay, he was told to put back his only weapon.
Seeing the powerless, speechless, weak and shameless Jesus going through as 'Lamb of God', to be slaughter, so to be offered up by the Jewish people, they fled with fear. There were conflicts, between fact and Jesus truth.
They saw Jesus being tortured, yet did not defend Himself, of which any human being would.
What's wrong with Jesus?
Was He losing His mind?
They paid the price of discipleship, then what was their reward?
If the master suffered in this helpless condition, so too they would.
Why didn't God protect Him?
Disappointed, regretted and in fear, they fled and abandoned Jesus.
Yet! Inside of them, something was burning. Jesus predicted His own death and promised to rise again, by saying, 'a little while, you will not see me and a little while you will!'
In fact there was still this hope of seeing Jesus again, even after He died.
After the death and resurrection of Jesus, when 'it is better that one man died, then for the whole nation to perish', which was a prophesy received by a prophet came into being and realized, the Jewish people and the chief priests, finally took a rest.
The disciples decided to return to their professions and families, they had sacrificed, because of Jesus; were surprised when Jesus appeared to them; their hope were fulfilled. They therefore proceeded to fulfill Christ's mission.
Let us reflect our attitudes and misconception about Jesus and His mission for each of us.
How many countless times, had we abandoned Jesus, when trials and temptation come along?
How many countless times, we were unfaithful to our baptismal promises?
How many countless times had God forgiven us?
Human understanding of heaven is limited. We tend to apply heaven in our understanding of earth.
On earth, we dwell in a protective building. Safe from harm and danger of intruders, undisturbed by weather upsets and extreme temperature changes, etc.
We find that our house is a safe refuge of which many people would not dream of having strangers inside. It is a place where they can have a peaceful night sleep, play, eat, study and rest.
Heaven is a place that housed the Disciples of Christ. They would be safe and secure. There they can have their full rest, undisturbed.
'Room' means a place of privacy, relaxation, rest and sleep.
Heaven is a real place, when our physical bodies were glorified.
Jesus ate and drank with the Disciples, after He resurrected from the death. We too shall have that body of which food and drink are acceptable.
Therefore heaven is a place of the family of God.
Jesus told them not to be worried, because there are many rooms in His Father's house. Heaven can accommodate all descendents of Adam and Eve, together with the angels.
Heaven cannot be described as a place with limitation, for it is every where. Heaven is not governed by laws of nature and physic, etc, but the Divine Law of God.
Imagine the whole realm is heaven, where the power, glory and majesty of God reigned supreme. There appeared another faint realm of darkness, where the Devil and prince of darkness reigned. These two domains were clearly outlined with enforcement angels standing on guard, against any intruders. Between both realms on the right and left, there existed another realm, which was a saturation of light and darkness. This was where earthlings and those under purification in purgatory are.
The Devil had no power to enter the zone of complete light, or heaven, where the throne of God is, but they can exert towards, as far as the border of heaven.
We cannot understand heaven if we merely view it from human prospectus, but only through the souls and spirits.
Heaven does not accept corruptible substances or matters, but all had to be transformed to immortality and re-consecrated. 'Re-consecrated' means that we all come from God and are supposed to be holy. Our souls were once the 'Image and Likeness of God', but tainted while laboring in this world. Entering this sinful world, we began to make our homes and soon get attached to the treasure and values of this world.
Just remove our understanding on the law of nature and physic. Allow mortality to perform its final function on all created things. Everything that appealed to our human's eyes and senses disappeared, so were our physical senses and laws governing human nature. As all physical steps aside what remain was immortality and beings. The Laws of the Spirit shall be the sole law that governs every spiritual being. We were exposed and naked of the clothing of the earth. God would not allow us to be without spiritual attire. We would either be clothed in tainted brownish, grayish, dark or white shinning clothing. These symbolized the disposition of our souls. Light represents holiness or godliness, which Christ had, to the fullness. Darkish represents sins and the Devil, whereas mixture of grayish, brownish or stains represent evil, unclean or sinful. But when Christ came again the Second time to judge the world, every purification and sanctification would had to proceed in a speedy manners, which would be very painful. 'The harvest is ready', therefore Christ sent forth His angels to accumulate the fruit of God's labor. Those unwanted substances, after all the good fruits were accumulated would be thrown out and burned in the eternal fire of hell and separation from God and His treasured Children.
As Jesus human glorified body was clothed in tangible clothing and His body truly human, together with Mary's, His Mother, we too after final purification and sanctification would be receive the reward Christ won for us. A new heaven and earth, would be a perfect dwelling place of God's Children, whereby paradise would be for all eternity, as the Devil would be imprisoned in the fire which sulfur had been added for all eternity. There, God shall forever be close, whereby His voice would be fully recognized as the loving utters of the Father. Every one of His Children would follow his 'footsteps'. When He spoke all shall hear clearly and open with a loving and trusting hearts, to a God who is the source of the essence of Love. God shall be the only Father, to all His creations.
'So that you will be where I am.'
By this the disciples thought that Jesus' Second Coming would happen very soon in their times. Was this some sort of motivation for them in their work of evangelization?
Jesus did come, in the form of His Spirit, united with the Father, in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, during Pentecost. This happened to prepare them and us for the Second Coming of Jesus. Because Jesus is looking at the stamp marks of God, in every soul, so that salvation could be possible.
The Holy Spirit sanctified and purified us, so that we can meet and be united with God, through Jesus Christ.
What would happen, if souls were still tainted by sins, when Jesus comes again?
We need not be too anxious about the Second Coming of Jesus, as God had, has and will until the 'trumpet blew', sent forth His Spirit into the people of this world, so that He could make salvation of our souls, possible through the present of His Spirit. There are countless gifts of the Holy Spirit, who is God and Father to all His Children, who bore His marks of ownership.
Like a loving family, whereby the father is very rich and powerful. He had the ability to give whatever his children asked of him, but he would disperse off his wealth with love and holds full responsibility. He cares for their body, mind and his spirit. He wants to make sure that the crucial element was not sacrificed, just because of temporary pleasure.
The Second Coming of Jesus, our human limited wisdom and mind could not possibly understand or grasp. God, through Jesus Christ as Son and glorified human being, was never cruel towards all God's Children. Like the story of those who were called to work in the farm. Some were called in the early morning, some noon, some afternoon, whereas some even, right before the closing of working hours. All were paid the same wage; that was a day's wage. What does this mean?
Every one called to work in the 'Vineyard of the Lord' is indeed blessed, for all shall receive the reward of eternal life, Christ gained for us. It does not matter, when we start our work for God. We could be very young, when we serve Him, adults or even aged, towards the end of their lives on earth. All shall receive the same reward, without any deduction. Before the Second Coming of Jesus, all whose deemed to be saved would be saved.
It would be like climbing up steps of a high mountain. There are some that had almost reach the top, some already ascended halfway, whereas some just start to take the initial steps. The peak of the mountain is likened to heaven. All of us are called to be saints, while on earth. This journey starts on our arrival, through birth. Although incapable of committing sins personally, the state of impurity, resulted from being descendents of our sinful parents are there. The age of the souls do not paralleled with our age in this world. The souls of very young children might be so much purer and maturer, then older children. Old people might even have souls; less matured then those younger ones. The wellbeing of the soul depends so much on its submission to God. The more they trust in God, the maturer they would be. Therefore those souls which were still not perfectly spotless, would experience intense pain, as they were being purified by the fire of God that proceeds through the Sacred Heart of Jesus. As this fire of God's love was inflamed in the heart of Jesus, so too would ours be. This fire would reveal our sins and brings us to remorse and repentance so that we could be reconciled with God.
"I am the Way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me".
Therefore no one can come to God, except through Jesus.
Jesus as glorified Man, became the only Shepherd, gate, gatekeeper, door and co-owner of heaven.
After conquering human weaknesses and overcame all temptations, He became the first amongst all Man, to overthrew Satan's dominion in the hearts of Man. God honored and installed Him as Savior and Lord of His own kind.
Therefore no matter who were chosen as prophets or messengers of God, none can claim the Children of God as theirs. All works of salvation and sanctification come to us through Christ Jesus, as He sent forth His Spirit, to Man. True Christians were indeed blessed to have experience parts of the fruits derived from the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Others would have to unveil themselves, of which no prophets or messengers of God had the power, but only through Jesus Christ. Rejecting Him, they still did not commit sins against the Holy Spirit, because they had not rejected God, but they could not be saved unless they accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This had to happen in their lifetime on earth or even after. Even though death is the end of grace, yet who were we to judge the love and mercy of God, who would take pity on the ignorant, sick and the blind?
'I am the truth'.
Jesus is not merely the transmission of truth, but the source, because He is God. The Devil is the father of all liars. 'Father of liars', which mean that all those who imitate the 'footsteps' of the Devil, were his instruments; because they were the transmission of the Devil's lies.
The Devil is the prince of darkness, of which he manifests himself into time and space, through obtaining from the earth, instruments for his works.
Jesus is the truth. He is the Light, and transmits His Light into the world. He, as God, is the Father of all truth.
God, through Jesus Christ, patiently called people of the earth, as Instruments of His truth, of which Jesus was the perfection of them all. Through Instruments that He anointed on earth, He showers His love and blessing to the people whom God loved.
We, through life's experience in walking with the Spirit, were amazed at how, from the blue, God indeed brings His lambs and sheep, to Himself, through us.
Sometimes we experience the Devil dragging the Children of Light, into his hideout. They would lure them through; a tempting relationships, materials, business opportunities, jobs, etc. When they were being attracted to these, they would not have noticed them at a glance, as the Devil is very cunning, but they were indeed very impatient. Living in the domain of hell, which is a common sight, as we glance through the attitudes and characters of the children of this world. Living in sins, separate us from God. In seclusion from God, indeed was hell, on earth. When Christians, no longer love spending time with God in prayer or work, sacrifice for the sake of others seemed meaningless, going to worship as community of believers, celebrating Mass, is a burden. Yet by not going to church, is still not classified as sin, but the reason was that because of sins in our hearts, we dread entering into God's house and His presence. We would be ashamed to face the community of faith, who had Christ in their hearts.
In contrary, the presence of Jesus in our hearts would instantly draw us to the Father. For the Spirit of Jesus the Son, who had found a home in our lives, rejoices and called to God "Abba! Father!" God's Spirit alive in us could be expressed inwardly and outwardly. Inwardly they would experience the love, peace and joy of Christ. Their eagerness to enter into communion with God and the community of faithful; in prayer, adoration, praise and thanksgiving. Their zeal and enthusiasm; in spreading the joy of Christ, to others.
'Jesus is the Life.'
In His Divine Nature as God, Jesus is the source of life, whether those of spiritual or physical. Human life, once pure, was tainted with sin, veiling us from the glory and presence of God. Jesus restores life to its origin and perfection, so that it would be compatible with that of God and the angels of God. Jesus' death ransomed us from sins; its slavery and various bondage. By this Jesus as Man, became God, of which restored new life comes through Him. Without Jesus we would be still spiritually death, even though physically alive. Unless God sees us as perfectly the likeness and images of His Son Jesus Christ, we could never be qualified for a place in heaven.
If we enters heaven, the only human figure that is God, is Jesus Christ. God the Father dwells in Jesus Christ was called the Son of God. God the Father besides dwelling in glorified human Jesus is everywhere. He rules over the spiritual and physical world. He is Almighty and Powerful. There exist no other power that tried to wrestle with Him. The Devil, never dares to appear before the presence of God, but like dark night creature, came out with his slaves to 'sow weeds in the field of God, while the wheat is growing.' They tried to lure us away from God, by their tempting whisper, when we refused God to be at 'home' in our lives.
I am telling you the truth: whoever believes in me will do what I do - yes, he will do even greater things, because I am going to the Father.
The first Disciples of Jesus could not do what Jesus did, or go where He went. They could not even recognize God the Father, in Jesus Christ. There is no different between the Father and the Son of God, both are one. The Father and the Son shared the same Spirit that is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit brings the Words and commands of God into activation and fulfills their collective will. There are three persons, but only One God, One will and Spirit.
Our God is a living God; words of God, continues to be channeled, into time and space through the written words of God, in the holy and living Bible, of which continued to come alive, as the Spirit, who inspired the writers, lived in us. He continues to inspire and motivate His Children to fill up their oil lamps for the 'Bridegroom' to arrive. All inspirations must be carefully discern, with the Spirit of Christ, within us. Those of us who were illiterate and had little knowledge about the Scriptures would receive revelations from God, if they desire to fulfill the will of their souls. These revelations were not new; as they were in fact Bible based, but explained in a refine and digestible form. God had spoken to Man in the past, presence and till the end of time, the Voice of God would be clearly heard, as we stood before Him, unveiled. The love, will and promise of God had, has and will for all eternity be consistence. So were the Words of God revealed to various holy men, throughout history, leading to the coming of Jesus and mission to be fulfilled through the working of the Holy Spirit, in the Apostles of the past, presence and time to come. Apostles were those called by God to serve His purpose, especially concerning salvation through evangelization, as continuation of Christ's work on earth. True to what Jesus said; the Apostles would do even greater things, as He send forth the Holy Spirit on them.
Faith in God is a Gift, not something that we acquired and learned as skill. As Gift, God can channel faith to the 'little' ones so much easier than those highly educated, but prideful. Even, with mere basic knowledge about Jesus and God, the Words of God like good seeds, had found conducive soils would grew very strong and powerful.
The Father, who remains in me, does his own work.
Jesus is God Incarnate. In His Divine Nature is God the Son. Yet God the Father and Son, never separate. It was for our limited understanding that God had to separate in Names, but never spirit.
God spoke, acted and empowered, human Jesus to do the work of God.
Jesus as Man, had His own human freewill, to do God's or worldly work. He could be a mere carpenter, taking over his foster father's business, etc. He was completely obedient and never deviate from His original will and plan. He submitted His human Will to God, so that He could be a perfect instrument and servant of God. He never upsets or disappoints God. Persecutions and trials could not put Him away from the Will of God.
And I will do whatever you ask for in my name, so that the Father's glory will be shown through the Son.
Does these words of Jesus promised that we could asked according to our whims and fancies; yet God carelessly gives them to us?
No! Definitely not! God gave with great responsibility. He is emphasizing on the Spiritual. He concentrates on the eternal spirit that dwells in each one of us. He wanted to restore, sanctifies and salvages the lost souls. Spiritual Gifts are aplenty for us to utilize, because of the generosity of God. We may foolishly desire to be the richest, wisest, most powerful and as a whole the cream of the world, but these were still limited. We might have one, yet without the other, but if we have God enthroned in our lives, who, what or which, beside God could ever be compatible. God is the creator, Lord, Master and God of everything He created, even if we refused to recognize Him as thus. He holds everything in His Hands; is there anything that we shall be lacked of?
If we received God as King and Lord of our lives, like Jesus as Man did, then the only prayer that we uttered shall be that of Jesus; 'Your will be done O God'.
Praise the Lord. Amen.
