COME TO ME AND REST (MATT 11:25-30}

COME TO ME AND REST (MATT 11:25-30}

"Jesus said, "Father, Lord of heaven and earth! I thank you because you have shown to the unlearned what you have hidden from the wise and learned. Yes, this was how you wanted it to happen."

As a human person, Jesus worshipped, praised and thanked God for blessing His brothers and sisters on earth. He was very disappointed with those who think they were wise with their worldly knowledge and wisdom. Only the sinful, humble, poor and sick people knew they needed Jesus to pour out His rich blessings on them.

"My Father has given me all things. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."

Yes! Indeed God had given all things on earth to His Son. The world was created for His Son. His Son was responsible for the well being of all man. The Son and the Father share the same Spirit. No one knows a person better than his own spirit and this spirit moves, motivates, gives strength and determination for that person to live.

Therefore no one knows the depth of God's thought except His own Spirit. Jesus was telling us that they both share the same Spirit. They know each other intimately. Since they share the same Spirit, both are one and they share in all activities as in creation, redemption and salvation, etc

When the Father commands, the Son commands, too. They are link with each other through the Holy Spirit. Therefore those who possess the Spirit of God are also link with God through His Spirit. As all angels and saints share the same Spirit they are all link with each other and with God, and this is the spiritual communion of all angels and saints with God the Father and the Son.

Therefore all things that belong to the Father, belong to the Son. All things that belong to the Son belong to the Father. We belong to Jesus Christ therefore we too belong to the Father.

"Come to me, all you who are tired of carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in Spirit; and you will find rest. For the yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I put on you is light."

Our desire to satisfy ourselves causes us to be chained in an unending rat race. We work so hard, even to the extent of ignoring our health and rest which are basic necessities in life and sometimes our responsibilities to our children are omitted. These are the challenges and loads for the children of the world. All we do is accumulate wealth and worldly power. Jesus said, "Come to me and I will give you rest." Turn away from the rat race, follow Jesus and be servants of love.

We too have to work hard to serve God, now and for eternity. We are to seek values that are eternal. What is material is temporary and what is spiritual is eternal.

"Take my yoke and put it on your shoulder and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit and you will find rest."

It needs at least two bulls to properly plough a field. Jesus is the best and He leads the way. If you were an animal sharing the same plough with an impatient and rough animal you will surely feel the stress and be impatient too and the field will not be ploughed properly. If you share the yoke of Jesus, He is humble and gentle, you will surely find rest and comfort while working with Him and learn to be gentle and humble too.

'Our Yoke is easy and load light'

Jesus Christ conquered the hardest part by ransoming mankind on the cross, irrespective of who we are, and we have only to carry the lighter load. Our unredeemable huge and deathly debt was being settled, by Christ and what is expected of us is not to be indebted again.

Why is this ransom necessary, since God can just cancelled off the debt, without having to be incarnated into a human person. He need not have to bear or share the fate of sinners. God can in His Almighty Power, created another human race to replace the fallen and sinful one. But why did He have to go through all the troubles in building up the broken relationship between His creatures and Himself? Why did He have to repair and replenished, the collapsing 'House', instead of demolishing it, so that the site can be used to build a better and firmer house, with a better foundation? Why? Why?

We human being could always ask 'Why?', yet never fully understand the reason why. This is the mystery of God's depth of love for all His creation. In His fallen creatures, still dwells His 'Light' of which God wants to salvage. The souls are His Life and God's treasure of which He entrusted to our physical bodies. He allows, the souls, which He calls, 'His Image and Likeness', yet can we really see, His 'Image and Likeness' in each one of us and ourselves?

We are just too blind not to see that property of God, right inside our hearts, that we manipulated it to serve the world and our sinful, unworthy desires.

We can forever stay that way, if we refused God sanctifying grace, truly activated in our lives. We need God's Power to be truly active, in renewing and transforming our old ways of living.

In this transformation, we need to sacrifice what we used to treasure and love. We need to loosen what we hold too tightly to, including our children, assets and all relationships. We need to let God be the master and Lord of them all. By doing so, our heavy and unbearable load or burdens are lifted up and share by God the Almighty Providence. In fact this is a great privilege and blessing to our physical and most of all spiritual.

We have also to be grateful to our savior and not be enslaved by our greed and love of material wealth. This greed belongs to the devil. When we share this worldly greed we have to share the sufferings of hell too.

Of course everything in this world belongs to God, but if we go against the divine principle of seeking necessities as we are passing by, we become slaves to them. We replace God with gods and goddesses that actually are God's gifts to us. Some may go to the extent of possessing evil powers so that they can be exceptionally rich and powerful.

In whatever status of wealth, power and authority, of which we now realized, are merely entrusted to us. If God made you into a huge storage or warehouse, may it be material or spiritual, we are stewards of God to distribute to our neighbors on earth. Nothing that God gave or give to us are supposed to be selfishly stored up for our personally use only, but like two loaves of breads, are to be shared according to our needs. Like the birds that flew out every morning searching for food, for themselves and their little ones, who are their dependents. Jesus praised the character of the birds, with their natural instinct, that never stored excessively. For we are more precious then the birds and the lilies in the field. Do we think that God is so stingy and mean to us all, that He decided to starve us to death? Some of us are blessed with the ability to experience God's Divine Providence truly at work in their lives. After seeing and witnessing them with our spiritual sight, we began to realize, how foolish we were in the past to truly struggle to store up excessively, without trusting in God. God holds our past, today and our tomorrow in his palm. Nothing can escape from His hold. The truth is God wanted us to give priority, to our eternal spirit, not the merely temporary clothing of the earth.

Therefore we need to respond to Jesus' Words, "Come to Me and rest!', with a positive and trusting hearts. With full knowledge that as long as we had, have and will co-operate with God as Divine Providence, we are sure to receive the eternal life that we lived and long for. We need also to truly experience the sure hope in this world and to continue with this eternal life in the next world. It would be a lost to us if we only experience this eternal joy only after the next life. God's Kingdom was in Jesus Christ. In His Sacred heart was the bursting flame of God's Divine Power. The moment of His death was the moment of glory of Jesus as Man and as God. He conquered sin and by His resurrection, Jesus conquered death for all eternity. So this eternal life starts while we are still on earth. After His ascension, Jesus fulfilled His promise, by sending the Spirit of God into the world and lives of all who daringly come out of darkness into the brilliant light of His presence. Once the world was engulfed in darkness, but after the death, resurrection, ascension of Jesus, and the descend of the Holy Spirit, the world once in darkness, was fully lighted up and flaming with His glory. The same glory of heaven shined and shared by the people in this world, yet some still enjoyed the darkness and continued to commit sin, generously and fearlessly. In their domain of slavery and darkness, they mocked the Children that dwell in the light. Many Children of the Light had heard their evil laughter and mockery. Some seemed to believe in their deceits, began to doubt God and later join them in their territory of hell. Like Adam and Eve who doubted God, began to disobey God, thinking that they were fools, in trusting and relying on God. The truth was that once they doubt God, they were truly fools, by their actions, the whole generation after them, inclusive of themselves and all creation lost their lives. The essence mankind had that belongs to God is love and selflessness. After the fall, that most precious virtues, were lost. They gave back that rules and laws of love back to God and happily embraced the law of sin and death. That was how serious, if we are incapable of responding positively to Jesus call, "Come to Me and rest!". In contrary, we return to the world and people in this world, with 'I'll struggle hard to find rest, if God do not provide. I'll find ways to live in happiness apart from God. The most precious element of happiness, in this world is money. I'll search for this with all my heart and my life!'

These people will over-burden themselves in their struggle for riches, sacrificing all others, which ought to be our priority, including marriage commitments and family lives. These people would find all ways and means to replace their obligation with money or others to pacify or redeem their guilt. The whole scenario, leads to low quality family and as a whole human life. Human beings became a slave of money and the Devil. These quality of love should be channel to God. If this was done, it is like being employed by a huge entrepreneur, who give all forms of fringe benefits to his/her employees, which come in package of medical and housing, etc. God is the Divine Providence and creator of all that are seen and unseen. Trusting in Him who truly cares and love us, is the wisest decision mankind would had made for their lives.

We have found in our lives, through trusting in Him, all our anxiety of the uncertainty was put to rest. All our needs were fully satisfied, but we wait for Him to pour out His material blessing in His Time, not ours. Whatever situation, condition and relationships that entangles us, we recognized them as trials to strengthen us spiritually and physically, by the grace of God. We wait on God to prompt us, before we take the next move, without straining God, by unnecessary pleading and begging.

Like putting our hope and trust in an employer, who had heart for his employees, we find rest and assurance. How much, we would have gain by putting our lives in God's Providence?

Praise the Lord. Amen.
