Top Ten Hurricane Names

I was listening to the radio this morning, and they were discussing the current problems in Florida. Two large hurricanes are threatening the state, named Bonnie and Charlie. The announcers actually phoned a hotel in Tampa and asked for a weather update, and then proceeded to joke around about hurricane names. They made a very good point.

Why are tropical storms given nice, cuddly names? Bonnie is a cheery, happy, and loving sounding name, and a hurricane is anything but chipper and kind! They should call the storms "Diablo" or "Cruella Deville" or possibly "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" or "Big Jim Walker" after the Jim Croce songs (side note, that song actually would be a pretty good theme for a storm: " And they say 'You don't tug on Superman's cape, You don't spit into the wind, You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger, And you don't mess around with Jim'"

But why stop there? Why not name the storms after people. Who needs a stadium named after you, when your name can be remembered for all time as a tropical storm? ("oh man, that George W Bush storm sure did rip the roof off of that there barn!", or "Did you hear the high pitched noise that the Mariah Carey storm made last week?"). I have come up with a few names I feel would be wonderful for tropical storms:

1. A storm that was predicted to be a whopper, but in reality wasn't all that serious - Hurricane MC Hammer

2. An annoying, useless storm that is full of air - Tropical Storm Jessica Simpson

3. An extremely volatile storm -Tropical Storm Courtney Love

4. A storm that originated in the Caribbean, that breezed over a landmass causing a cool light temperature (kinda mellowing) - Tropical Storm Bob Marley

5. Two storms from opposite oceans that collide over the USA - Tropical Storm Notorious B.I.G and Tropical Storm Tupac Shakur

6. A Storm that seems to always be around, even though no one pays attention to it anymore - Hurricane Cher

7. A storm that slowly changes from an awesome hurricane to a little puff of wind that leaves a kinda creepy feeling, and you are unsure when this transformation actually occurred - Tropical Storm Michael Jackson

8. A loud, dominating mastermind storm that targets the real estate market of New York - Hurricane Donald Trump

9. A large hurricane that moves left, then right, then left, then right, then WHAM it finishes with a hard hit to the upper left US. - Hurricane Mohammed Ali

10. A storm that is perfect in every way possible - Hurricane Mel Gibson

There are many other great names, but I feel these 10 are a good place to start!
