A plane crash, a convicted murderer, a cripple who can now walk, a drug addict, a demon child and a polar bear in the hot jungle. These are some of the many hooks that make ABC's Wednesday night drama Lost such a good shoe. Lost is so complicated and so implausable but those are the reasons why people keep tuning into ABC on Wednesday at eight. Lost is a show that is extremely character-driven, each episode there is a flashback showing what happened to the characters before their plane crashed. Each character has a very interesting story, Kate was traveling with a U.S. marshal who died in an early episode. We later found out that this man had been tracking her because she killed someone she was very close to. This is just one of the many extremely addicting hooks of Lost. In the fourth episode, Terry O'Quinn's John Locke backstory was revealed. On the island, Locke was the only hunter and was a very mysterious character. Locke was the only one who knew how to fend for himself but it seemed very odd that he worked for a box factory. In the last part of Locke's flashback, we found out that John was in a wheelchair but can now walk. How could something like this possibly happen? Another flashback revealed that a pregnant survivor, Claire, may be carrying a demon baby which a fortune teller foresaw. Something mysterious like this has happened to every person on the island. Another survivor, Hurley, won the lottery before the plane crashed and after he did so, everyone around him was having bad luck. He believes that the plane crashed because of him. Implausable? Yes, but that isn't always a bad thing. Lost is an extremely interesting and thought-provoking show that leaves you thinking about it the next day and each day after that. Each character is very powerful in their own way and each character has their own baggage that they bring to the show. If you're looking for a fun and exciting show to think about, Lost is meant for you. Read next week's WEEKLY to read a review of ABC's show ALIAS. |
