In late October of 2003, Danny Ainge traded Antoine Walker and Tony Delk (two players who had contributed to the Celtics' playoff success) to the Dallas Mavericks for Raef Lafrentz, Jiri Welsch and Chris Mills. more odd trades that made less sense. What was Danny Ainge trying to do to the Celtics?
On Thursday, Ainge made another strange trade which sent Gary Payton, Michael Stewart, Tom Gugliotta and a first round draft pick to the Atlanta Hawks for Antoine Walker. Less than two years after Ainge sent Walker to the Mavs, he got him back to try to help the Celtics get to the playoffs. Sure, it's a good thing to have Antoine back in a green Celtic jersey but it is still an interesting move for the Celtics to make. I think 'Toine will help the Celtics greatly and hopefully he will re-sign with the Celts. Although this was a good trade for the C's, it still makes you wonder what Ainge is thinking and if he has a plan for the organization.
On Friday, Ainge somehow, miraculously got Gary Payton back. Yes, Payton signed with the C's just a week after he was traded to the Hawks and then released by them. What does this mean for Boston fans? We'll just have to wait and see but it isn't a bad thing if you have Paul Pierce, Antoine Walker and Gary Payton, among others, in your staring five.
