The Story So Far
Home
In October of 2004, who would've guessed that the Phoenix Suns would have the best record in the NBA? Right now, the Suns are slated to play the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs. Another Western Conference team, the San Antonio Spurs, are of course winning and will be the number 2 seed in the playoffs.
This year has been very surprising for the Western Conference. The Los Angeles Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves will both miss the playoffs. The Suns and the Seattle SuperSonics will be taking their place and are both serious contenders for an NBA Championship.
This year, the Eastern Conference has been dominated by Shaquille O'Neal's Miami Heat and the Heat will probably march on to the NBA Finals. Like last year, the Detroit Pistons are doing well in the East and the streaky Boston Celtics have clinched the third seed. The Chicago Bulls have shocked everyone with their first playoffberth since the days of Michael Jordan. Another surprise in the East is the Cleveland Cavaliers who started off great and have faltered lately and will probably not make the playoffs.
This is an extremely wide open season. Any team that makes the playoffs will make have a good shot at winning it all. The Suns are the favorite but don't be surprised if a lower seeded team takes home the trophy.
