When the Yankees and the Red Sox square off, fans want the games to matter and want a reason to cheer.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's a good thing for fans to get pumped up about baseball in April and maybe it's a good thing for the games to be like a playoff atmosphere. If the Sox and Yanks have to play each other 19 timews in one season, maybe they should play some early season games. I just think that the Yankees vs. Red Sox matchups should actually mean something.

The Boston Red Sox's Opening Day was on Sunday, April 3 against their rival, the New York Yankees. Sure, it's fun to see the Sox and Yanks go head to head early inn the season and obviously you'd rather see the Yankees than the Orioles, Devil Rays or the Blue Jays but playing the Yankees in six out of the first nine games may be a bit much. When you picture the Red Sox and the Yankees playing, you see an intense, high stakes game where the outcome actually means something. This season started with back to back losses to the Bronx Bombers and it was no big deal to Red Sox fans because it was so early in the season.
