Interesting Restorations | |||||||||||||||||||||||
It has yet to cease to amaze me what my clients bring in for restoration. I get comments like, "It has gears kinda like a clock." and, & "I can't find anyone who will touch it." So I take them in stride and try to help out. In the end, all of these are at least remotely related to timekeeping. Follow along as I show you some of the interesting ones. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
1913 Oakland Speedster A friend bought this car from a museum where it had been setting for 25 years. It had been through a cosmetic restoration before that time but had not been started anytime recently. We tow started it and it ran, but after a few minutes we got a stuck valve and had to put it away. It is currently undergoing full mechanical and consmetic restoration at a local shop. My part was to restore the car's clock and speedometer. |

Nutone Clock & Westminister Door Bell (Picture to Left) I received this from a previous neighbor that he had retrieved from his first house. It is a 1930's or 1940's electric clock/door bell combo. When you push the button, a second Telechron rotates a selector switch to play the first 8 notes of the Westminister chime. The selector switch activates four solenoids to strike the tubular chimes hangining below the clock's hood. A little clean-up and a new clock Telechron was all it needed to become ready to use again. |

1963 Oldsmobile Cruise Control Head Unit (Picture Below) Another friend is an Olds (and Corvair) nut. He brought this dash mounted cruise control head for restoration. These things appear to fail in three separate ways and I had to address them all. Olds Cruise Control Head Restoration |
