“Rivers! Come, look! The Buddy Holly video just came on TV!!” yells Miriam to Rivers who’s upstairs. Rivers runs down the stairs to see it, with her.
“Oh my god, you look so ugly in the video…” jokes Miriam.
“Yeah right. Just look at Matt, his smile is so fake!” replies Rivers as he slips his arm around her shoulder, rests his head on her head and sniffs the scent in her hair. “Your hair smells nice.”
“Hahaa, I bet your hair stunk for days with that much gel…” she suddenly realizes the compliment, “oh, thanks.”
Rivers chuckles lightly and begins to smooth her hair. “Let’s watch TV together.”
“I think we’re already doing that.”
“I suddenly want you, so badly.”
“I think I’d rather watch TV.”
“So ya slammin’ me!” Rivers now putting his hand onto her thigh, “Let’s watch the undone video. I think I have a copy.”
“Oh, I like that video. I like your hair.”
“You want me to grow a bowl cut again?”
“It’d be nice. For the next album, you should have your bowl cut, with the glasses and look real cute.”
“I don’t know… I don’t think I can write the album I want with you around making me feel great about life with a friend.”
Somehow they always end up talking about the next album, the future, and the unexpected. Even though they know they still don’t totally have each other. They are just flirting, just holding hands… Miriam knows something is in their way. She guesses Rivers still thinks that she’s a… lesbian.
“Rivers…”
“Miriam…” he waits her to proceed what she is trying to say… he’s getting impatient. “oh, just spit it…”
“I like you, like so fucking much.” There, done. Miriam abruptly gets up and walks away from Rivers. –I need to give him time, right? I mean… this is shocking so… if he’s going to do anything… Walking away is a good idea, isn’t it?— her thoughts are racing in her mind. Too many thoughts at once.
Rivers grabs her arm and pulls her down. “What did you say?” he asks.
“Um… I need to uh, go pee.” She just wanted to get away from him right now. She needs some time to calm down. Maybe he needs sometime to sort his thoughts.
He lets go of her arm, “yeah, sure. Go ahead. The bathroom is the second room on the right upstairs.” --What am I saying? Like she doesn’t know where the bathroom is.—
Miriam chuckles and walks upstairs.
Rivers twiddles his thumbs around while waiting for Miriam to come back. –Will she ever come back down…? What the hell am I going to say to her? But, I thought she doesn’t… like guys… oh crap—
They’re now both sitting on the couch.
--shit, I’m just gonna ask her.— “Mim, aren’t you a lesbian?” He keeps on talking before she can reply. “No offence, but I thought you were a lesbian that’s why I never really asked you out. And plus also, why would you like me? You’ve seen the grossest sides of me over the years! And there’s so many guys who are way better than me out there asking you out, and you always, always reject them. That contributes another reason for me to think that you’re a lesbian. I…”
“What?”
“Um, what, what?”
“Rivers, you just never know me well enough.”
“So you’re NOT a lesbian?”
“At least I don’t think so.”
“Ah, wanna go out then?”
“No.” she replied. –WHAT? I said no to the guy of my dreams!?—
“Oh, you just like to kid with me, don’t you?”
“I think I’m serous.”
