Blue Album
title: weezer [advance promo]
label: geffen
id #: dgcd24629
released: spring, 1994
songs: my name is jonas. no one else. the world has turned and left me here. buddy holly. undone-the sweater song. surf wax america. say it ain't so. in the garage. holiday. only in dreams.
notes: one of the first advance cd's made by Geffen/DGC, as they had just started the practice of doing advance cd's as well as cassettes. These were sent out to retailers and some radio stations, to generate interest in advance of the albums release. There are likely no more than 500 of these. [Note that there are also promo cassettes of this as well].
title: weezer [4 song advance promo cassette]
label: geffen
id #: PRO-C-4645
released: spring, 1994
songs: my name is jonas. buddy holly. undone-the sweater song. in the garage.
notes: an unusual promo cassette sampler with artwork. Shows the bands feet, cut off from virtually every other use of the Blue Album cover photo. Sent to radio and retailers before the Blue Album's release. Only a few hundred likely to exist.
title: weezer s/t - a.k.a "the blue album" as fans & the band refer to it.
label: geffen
id #: dgcd24629
released: may 10, 1994
songs: my name is jonas. no one else. the world has turned and left me here. buddy holly. undone-the sweater song. surf wax america. say it ain't so. in the garage. holiday. only in dreams.
notes: weezer's first record. Recorded August-October 1993 at Electric Lady Studios in New York City. Ric Ocasek, the frontman of The Cars, produced. No one could beleive it was really happening. Waking up at the Gramercy Park Hotel, walking down, across Union Square, grabbing a slice at Ray's Pizza on 6th Ave, and walking into Electric Lady... "good morning Ric!" "Yer late!". The traumatic unexpected exchange of Brian Bell for Jason Cropper notwithstanding, it was an amazing time. Only 1 week and $20,000 over budget. Worth every penny.

title: weezer - buddy holly (uk release)
label: geffen
id #: gfstd88 (europe GED21978 - w/out jamie)
released: september 7, 1995
songs: buddy holly. my name is jonas-live. surf wax america-live. jamie.
notes: cover art features rivers and brother leaves. bsides recorded live on tour. jamie from dgc rarities vol. 1. There's the little troublemaker, along with his brother on the cover. The live tracks were recorded in Rochester, during a show where i swear several kids got frostbite in line waiting to get in. Then when the show was over, everything was coated in a sheet of ice, making for fun driving home. Overall possibly the most dangerous weezer concert ever. Of all the songs played in the show, these two songs were the first and last of the set, and happened to be the only 2 songs on the tape that came out good.
UK cassette single also exists [2 songs].
the uk 7" featured "jamie" as the bside. it also had great '50s era cover art on a standard black 45

songs: buddy holly. holiday.
notes: cover art features rivers and friend. songs are from s/t first release. An odd Australian release with no exclusive b-side. notes: acoustic live tracks recorded at cats paw studios session circa 1995. the say it ain't so remix is a more radiomix with drum & vocal tweaks. Vinyl edition was a limited 10" (10,000 numbered copies). CD came with an "if its too loud..." sticker. Acoustic tracks from a live studio performance at 99X in Atlanta.
UK cassette single also exists [2 tracks].
Cover art is a negative reversal of some childhood art of Rivers's, a drawing of a young player scoring the winning soccer goal ("goll") as the father roots the lad on..
