History Of The Weimaraner
The Weimaraner originates in Germany and early recordings of it's existance date back to the ealy 1820's. It comes from a small German province called "Weimar" hence it's name. It was bred by the aristocrats of Weimar for hunting and protection of their families and property. How the Weimaraner came into existance is largely unknown however some theories point to the bloodhound being in it's ancestory. The Weimaraner is termed a Utility Gundog because it not only points, but flushes and retrieves game and is one of only 2 dog breeds that have webbing between their toes for swimming. The Weimaraner was used to hunt numerous game including bear, deer, boar, ducks, pheasants and quail and is a versatile hunting dog that is intelligent, fearless and obedient. Living with a Weimaraner is not easy, they are a very intelligent dog, stubborn at times but very loving and loyal. The are great with children and will protect any of the family with their lives. Seeing a Weimaraner in family mode and then in protective mode are two totally different situations. They love to be around their owners, love to be petted and cuddled and will sit on top of you or in your bed if you let them. But when it comes to protection and a guard dog they are excellent being fearless and will show as much agression as needed to protect their owners and property.
