We'd made arrangements Thursday night for our early Friday morning visit to school. Lacey picked me up that morning at about 6:00am, and I was wide-awake. I was really happy to be going. Lacey, on the other hand, was yawning. A moment later, we left my driveway for Kristi's house. When we arrived, we all waited a few seconds to see if she would come outside. Well, she didn't. Lacebone and I got out of the car and up to her door, but then stopped for a moment. I asked, "Hey, do we wanna wake up her family too by knocking?" Just then Kristi stepped out of the door, also yawning. I smiled, and then we all piled into the car to get to school. We arrived in the parking lot shortly after, then we all got out of the car. All three of us staggered drunkenly through the doors and down the hall to the slanted room. We walked in, then got up near the top of the room and sat down. They were watching me as I just kept staring forward, making strange faces into space. Kristi and Lacey couldn't help but giggle at me, so I continued the face making, trying not to laugh myself. After about five minutes had passed, the other students got up and signed a sheet of paper. Since Mr. Douglas hadn't shown up within five minutes of when the detention was supposed to begin, we were free to leave. Lacey, Kristi, and I all signed our names, then left the building to sit outside. "Well, what do we do now?" I asked. "Yeah, I really don't wanna stick around here for another hour," Lacey said. We all paused a moment. "We could go to Hy-Vee," Kristi spoke. It sounded good, so we started walking there. On the way, Mr. Douglas had driven by and looked at us. We all just smiled, waved, and yelled, "Hi!" We didn't care about detentions or school or boyfriends at that moment; the only thing on our minds was having a good time. As we walked, the only thing that I felt was great happiness. It's almost hard to believe that I have such good friends that are willing to go to a detention with me. I think that since Lacey and Kristi got those punishments by asking for them, fate favored us all by getting us out of detentions. We bonded that day, or at least it seemed that way. I think the clouds before my eys that blinded me were lifted. I could finally see what great ties I had with those people. That day passed in a blur; we were all too happy to remember the details. I just wonder if this'll become an annual happening... |
